Mark Menard made his way to New Orleans by way of a south Louisiana childhood in Morgan City and a formative stint in Thibodaux where he earned a degree in journalism from Nicholls State University. He started at WWL in 2003 as a twiddler of knobs and answerer of phones, but worked his way through the ranks to become a deliverer of sports and now toils as a chronicler of news.

But when it comes to metal’s most memorable music video of the year, there’s really no debate. It gave a New York City outfit that turned the glam movement on its ear their only career top 40 hit, and the rebellion it preached was something Twisted Sister came by honestly.

Dan Hartman had been bouncing around the music business for two decades when he finally got his one big smash hit single as a solo artist. Hartman had spent time with The Legends and the Edgar Winter Group in the 70s, writing and singing hits like “Free Ride” for Winter and hitting the top 40 on his own with the song “Instant Replay” in 1976. He produced albums for other 70s rock acts like Foghat, Rick Derringer and 38 Special.
