As the nation prepares to mark its 250th birthday, efforts are underway in Maryland to honor Revolutionary War patriots, including some buried at Historic Westminster Cemetery. Past the cemetery’s iron gates, there are graves that nearly disappear into the earth, with stones worn smooth and names nearly erased. Many date back to the 1700s, and among them are the resting places of men whose roles in the Revolutionary era were not widely recognized for generations.

The William Winchester Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently unveiled the new America 250 marker in the square.
