Manatee deputies identify decomposing body found in Bradenton backyard

Investigators have identified a woman found dead behind a Bradenton home Monday and determined that she was killed. Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said they identified the woman as 44-year-old Starr Lashua. Detectives said an autopsy determined Lashua died because of “homicidal violence.” Detectives have not released additional details about how Lashua was killed, citing an active investigation.

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating what they described as a “suspicious death” after finding a woman’s decomposing body behind a Bradenton home Monday afternoon. Deputies said they found the woman’s body around 2:15 p.m. in the 700 block of 59th Avenue East in Bradenton. The sheriff’s office did not release information about how the woman may have died. Deputies said the body was in an “advanced state of decomposition” and that detectives are working to identify the woman.
