Midyear Check: Construction Risks Worth Revisiting in 2026
In 2026, contractors continue to face an all-too-familiar set of challenges: rising costs, labor shortages, evolving technology and an increasingly complex risk environment. In many cases, these challenges have intensified as the year has progressed. Like executives across industries, construction leaders continue to feel pressure from rising costs and workforce challenges, according to Sentry's 2026 C-Suite Stress Index.
Top-Down Risk Control: Why Roofs Matter More Than Ever
Small roof problems can expand over time, so managers should treat roofing as a core function of risk management. Roof condition directly affects property loss potential, business interruption exposure and insurance premiums and coverage terms.
Construction Insurance Outlook 2026: How Contractors Can Manage Rising Costs, Labor Shortages and New Risks
Construction business leaders know how quickly market conditions can shift. Tariffs, labor shortages, and inflationary pressures are changing the cost of doing business, while technology and legal risks evolve just as rapidly. 3 Tips for Managing Economic Risks on Construction Projects
Over the last few years, the cost of doing business has risen significantly. In the wake of the pandemic, owners have had to contend with persistent inflation, continued supply chain issues, and widespread skilled labor shortages. All of these factors can make it more difficult to finish projects on time and on budget—a critical quality for the industry. While inflation is easing, it’s still important to stay diligent about protecting your business’s financial future.
4 Ways to Protect Fleet Drivers on the Road
Safe driving is about protecting your employees and those on the road. When you make a commitment to hiring safe drivers, you help make the road a better place. Transportation and material-moving workers experienced 1,523 fatal work injuries in 2021. That’s a record high for the group, which also represented the occupation with the highest number of fatalities that year. And in construction, dangers apply to more than open road vehicles. Accidents can involve heavy machinery and equipment, too.
4 Ways to Protect Your Jobsite From Severe Weather
There’s a good chance severe weather has impacted your construction site in the last few years. Events like tornadoes, hailstorms, flooding and wildfires are worsening and happening more often. In fact, severe weather events exceeding $1 billion in damages have more than doubled in the past five years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Compounding problems, material inflation and supply chain delays could lead to longer, costlier recovery periods.

It’s not just your imagination: Extreme weather events like tornadoes, hailstorms, extreme cold and heat, flooding, and wildfires are worsening and happening more often.
5 Risk Management Areas You Should Focus on This Year & Beyond
The last several years have been challenging for contractors as they face mounting pressures from inflation, labor shortages, rising capital costs and continued supply chain interruptions. As you navigate these pressures, be sure not to ignore the many risks that could adversely affect the business you’ve worked so hard to build and maintain. Proactive risk management puts you in a better position to protect your business and employees: It should be a key aspect of every business plan.
