Columbiana citizens asked to conserve power during hot weather

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana City officials are again asking their residents to voluntarily reduce energy use to keep electric rates from getting more expensive. The call to conserve is for today, July 14, and tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15. However, city officials tell 21 News that if the hot weather continues, they may extend the so-called “Community Energy Savings Days” through Friday. Temperatures are expected to reach well into the 90’s in the coming days. That’s when there’s more electricity demand.

Hot dog! Wiener sign above Warren landmark to spin again

WARREN - The iconic hot dog will spin once again above Warren’s iconic Hot Dog Shoppe to help celebrate National Hot Dog Day. Operators of the Hot Dog Shoppe also plan to observe the occasion on Wednesday with a ceremony and by offering $1 chili dogs. Recognizing the 80th anniversary of its founding in 1946, the business also announced restoration of the spinning hot dog sign that stopped functioning above the shop at 740 W. Market Street last year.

Rare leopard birth is first in Cleveland Zoo history

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today announced the birth of a rare Amur leopard, the first birth of the species in its 144-year history. It is also the first Amur leopard born in any Ohio zoo. One of the world’s rarest and most critically endangered species, the Amur leopard is believed to number fewer than 100 in the wild. The cub was born just after midnight on July 1 to five-year-old mom, Marta, and four-year-old father, Sylas, at the Zoo’s Asian Highlands destination.
