Report: Mets are the first 2026 team ready to burn it all down
(Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images) Hi friends- We knew this day was coming and now it’s here. After a disastrous off-season where the Mets front office let fan favorites Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz walk, then panicked and signed a shortstop to play third base, traded for an old statue to play second base, then signed a second baseman to play first base, New York now predictably finds itself 16 games under .500 at 41-57, in last place in their division.

What it's like to go to an A's game in West Sacramento

Arte Moreno fires Perry Minasian because he cannot fire himself
If you haven’t seen the announcement in our chats: there will be no Zoom today. We will zoom tomorrow (Sunday, June 28th) at 2 PM PT (after Canada vs. South Africa’s knockout game in the World Cup). See you then! It is not easy being an Angels fan right now. The team hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2014—the longest drought in MLB.
Would you rather be on the hook for Kyle Tucker's contract or Bo Bichette's?
(Photo by Katelyn Mulcahy/Getty Images) Hi friends- I’ve been holding off on writing this column, but we are now 76 games into the 2026 season, a large enough sample size to begin to draw some conclusions. Last off-season, Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette were the belles of the free agent ball, ranking 1 and 2 on MLBTradeRumors available player list. (This is my Bible).

My conversation with Doug Glanville and Baseball Hall of Fame president Josh Rawitch on Lou Gehrig
Hi friends- On Tuesday I had the privilege of speaking with my friends Doug Glanville and Josh Rawitch about Lou Gehrig’s life and legacy on Lou Gehrig Day. Glanville—a former MLB player and current announcer and writer (subscribe to his substack!)—spoke about how damn near impossible Gehrig’s consecutive games played streak is from a physical and mental standpoint as a player.

Around the League Long Game Meet up 2026 Part 1! OK this was only about…..half our group. But scroll down for pictures of everybody! Hi friends- I had so much fun during our third annual Long Game meet-up that it took me six days of recovering to be able to sit upright long enough to write this round-up (lolol yikes). This is only part one, and I’ll have a review of the games from the Brewers and White Sox games later this week. The main feeling I have right now is gratitude.

I am super excited for Day 1 of our third annual Long Game meet-up on Friday for Astros vs. Cubs! Last summer when we all got together at Fenway I (stupidly!) connected in Indianapolis from LA to Boston, got stuck for five hours in Indy due to bad weather, and landed in Beantown at 3 am on game day.

Did the entire MLB scouting industry whiff on Munetaka Murakami?
(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) Seconds after Munetaka Murakami launched a 451-foot nuke to dead center at Chase Field in Arizona on Wednesday night, I texted a friend in an MLB front office and asked why the hell his team didn’t sign the Japanese slugger. It wasn’t just that Murakami’s homer traveled 451 feet at a speed of 110 miles per hour that caused me to leap off my couch and into my text messages. This was Murakami’s fifth straight game with a homer, tying an MLB rookie record.
I saw the Mets play baseball in person this week. It wasn't good.

So important, in fact, that if the US lost it would no longer control its destiny. Welp.
