Audit finds flaws in crime reporting at Utah higher ed institutions

A legislative audit published Wednesday found 141 data entry errors where Utah colleges and universities had not properly reported crime statistics, among other public safety issues. Improper reporting of crimes on campus potentially violates the Clery Act, a federal law which requires universities and colleges to “continually assess potential threats and issue a timely warning to their campus communities where certain threats are identified,” and to track and report certain crime statistics.
