Unlocking the relationship between care preference–reality consistency and depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults: the roles of social adaptation and satisfaction with care
Abstract Objectives This study examined the association between care preference–reality consistency and depressive symptoms among older adults, focusing on social adaptation as a moderator and satisfaction with care as a mediator. Method Using data from the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey, we analyzed 2,830 older adults with care needs (age: M = 77.35, SD = 8.20).
Heterogeneous trajectories of oral frailty and their determinants in older patients receiving dental implants: a longitudinal study
Abstract Objective: To describe distinct trajectory patterns of oral frailty after implant-supported prosthesis delivery in older patients and to identify associated factors. Methods: This prospective longitudinal cohort study consecutively enrolled 211 older patients who completed implant-supported prosthesis delivery at Nantong Stomatological Hospital and Haoting Dental Clinic between January 1 and April 30, 2025.
Electricity load forecasting under extreme heat and cold waves
Abstract Extreme heat and cold waves can push electricity demand beyond the conditions for which power systems are routinely planned, increasing the risk of shortages and blackouts. Accurate load forecasts are therefore critical because they give operators the lead time needed to keep supply and demand in balance. Because such events are rare, forecasting models are trained mostly on ordinary weather conditions and often fail when demand patterns shift during extremes.
AI-driven Chinese male facial skin phenotype profiling and its lifestyle correlation
Abstract Concerns about facial skin health and aesthetics are increased among the male demographic, necessitating in-depth exploration of lifestyle factors on facial skin phenotypes. Large-scale studies on male facial skin phenotypes remain scarce due to inherent constraints in phenotypic acquisition efficiency and subject recruitment.
Social isolation and falls among older adults in China: the mediating roles of depressive symptoms and cognitive function
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate how depressive symptoms and cognitive function mediate the bidirectional relationship between social isolation and falls among older adults in China. Methods The data were derived from the 2013, 2015, and 2018 waves of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The analytic sample comprised 6,338 respondents aged 60 years and older. Longitudinal cross-lagged models were built to test the proposed mediation model.

Persistence and turnover of soil organic carbon in global drylands
|
Abstract Reliable predictions of dryland carbon fluxes require understanding the persistence and turnover of soil organic carbon (SOC). We measure radiocarbon to quantify the age of SOC and CO2 released from soil respiration at 97 dryland sites across six continents. Here we show that bulk SOC contains little C fixed in the past 60 years, while respired CO2 originates from both bomb-derived recent C and millennia-old C, challenging the idea that old C is chemically or physically protected.

Fuel availability versus flammability: divergent fire controls across Eurasian drylands
Abstract Fire regulates the carbon, water and nutrient cycles, especially in regions with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dramatic vegetation response to climatic factors complicates fire preconditions in Eurasian drylands, leaving our understanding of climate-fuel-fire patterns limited. Here we identify eight pyromes with unique combinations of fire characteristics of size, expansion, frequency and duration.
Resilience and typologies of caregiving experiences among family caregivers of older adults with disabilities in China
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to establish a typology of family caregivers of older adults with disabilities by simultaneously assessing positive and negative caregiving experiences in a Chinese context, and to investigate how resilience distinguishes these types. Method Data were collected in Changchun city, China from August to September 2024 using a stratified sampling method.
Tracing Soil CO2 Fluxes under Drying-Rewetting Cycles: Isotopic Insights from an Automatic Soil Incubation System

NIGWO-iCaps NN: A Method for the Fault Diagnosis of Fiber Optic Gyroscopes Based on Capsule Neural Networks
1. Introduction Fault diagnosis and isolation play a crucial role in monitoring system stability and reliability, and the diagnostic process can usually be divided into three processes: signal processing, feature extraction, and fault identification [1,2]. An inertial navigation system (INS) relies on gyroscopes to provide accurate attitude angles, angular velocities, and accelerations [2,3].

Individual-level community-based social capital and depressive symptoms among older adults in urban China: the moderating effects of socioeconomic status
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to examine the moderating role of socioeconomic status in the association between community-based social capital—based on individual-level cognitive and structural social capital—and depressive symptoms among older adults in urban China. Methods Data were collected in 2020 through a community survey of 800 respondents aged 60 years and older living in Shijiazhuang and Tianjin.
Designing High Mechanical Strength and Rapid-Recovery Hydrogel Electrolyte Based on the Inspiration of the Mechanical Unfolding Behavior of a Protein
Hydrogel electrolytes, as a crucial component of stretchable supercapacitors (SSCs), have a challenge to meet the demands of users for their inferior mechanical performance. Many reported works primarily focus on the integration of energy-dissipating units into the gel network, resulting in limited strengthening and compromised recovery performance.

Picture of Peanut Plant Disease Resistance After inoculation with F. oxysporum and cultivation for 7 d, compared with the control, Car treatment initially thickened and blackened the peanut plants leaves; however, the leaves soon recovered. After TG5 treatment, the leaves became thicker and the leaf veins grew stronger, resulting in a significant increase in the number of root nodules, root area, leaf area, and net length of the peanut roots.

Optical Attenuation Coefficient Optimization Algorithm for Deep Tissue Signals in Optical Coherence Tomography Based on Kalman Filter
Abstract : Optical coherence tomography (OCT) attenuation imaging is a technique that uses the optical attenuation coefficient (OAC) to distinguish the types or pathological states of tissues and has been increasingly used in basic research and clinical diagnosis. With the increasing application of swept-source OCT, scholars are increasingly inclined to explore deep tissues. Unfortunately, the accuracy of OAC calculation when exploring deep tissues has yet to be improved.

The Causal Effects of Urban-to-Urban Migration on Left-Behind Children’s Well-Being in China
Abstract : As China’s urbanization process deepens, more and more residents of small and medium-sized cities are moving to large cities, and the number of left-behind children is increasing. In this paper, using data from the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS), a nationally representative survey sample, we examine the well-being of left-behind children with urban household registration at the junior high school level and the causal effects of parental migration on their well-being.
