Never forget
In October, 2001, my spouse, Jack Felicita, and I visited New York City with a donation from the citizens from here, for the K9s being used for search and rescue at Ground Zero. People had generously given over $2,000 to their cause. It was one month after the attack. Driving into the K9 MASH unit, we passed law enforcement at every intersection and had to be checked at every one. We got to where we needed to go, but no place to park. The cops showed up and moved their vehicles for us.

Call on Your Inner Mixologist To Stir Up This Classic Manhattan

Stirring with ice softens the alcohol’s bite and makes each sip more mellow. It’s hard not to feel classy when you’re drinking a Manhattan. A mix of whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters, it’s the whiskey world’s answer to the martini and arguably the quintessential cocktail of its kind.

The Big Problem with Farmhouse Sinks (That No One Tells You About)
Farmhouse sinks are big. Huge. (Huge in the sense that they’re very trendy, and also huge in the sense that they’re very large.) They figure in a lot of very stylish kitchens, and, if you’re remodeling, chances are good that you’re considering one for your kitchen, too. But farmhouse (or apron front) sinks do have one drawback that’s worth keeping in mind.

This $200 “Super Cozy” Chair Looks 10 Times the Price (It's a Steal!)
Ah, beanbag chairs; a child’s dream, an adult’s nightmare. They’re so comfortable and yet so ugly — or at least we used to think. When we did a little research into the current state of beanbag chairs, we were surprised to find that they had evolved considerably from the vinyl monstrosities of my youth. These days, beanbag chairs are less like lumpy sacks of beans and more like plush, comfortable cocoons that beg for an afternoon nap or quick meditation session.

Jimmy Carter’s African legacy: peacemaker, negotiator and defender of rights
When historians and pundits praise Jimmy Carter’s achievements as the US president and extol his exemplary post-presidential years, they mention the recognition of China, the Panama Canal Treaties and the Camp David Accords. Almost no one mentions what Carter, who has died, achieved in Africa during his presidency. This is a serious oversight. When I interviewed President Carter in 2002, he told me: I spent more effort and worry on Rhodesia than I did on the Middle East.

Chai-Spiced Apple Cider Punch With Brandy is Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice
Nothing says party quite like punch! This holiday version is made with brandy, apple cider, vanilla, and chai (yes, chai!) for a drink that’s sweet, well-balanced, and full of subtle spice flavors. Punch has a long history of getting people convivially schnockered. As an alcohol delivery mechanism, it predates even the cocktail.
Apple Cider Hot Toddy
Nancy Mitchell It's not often you can drink alcohol and claim it's good for you, but in the case of the hot toddy, you (maybe) can. The combination of whiskey, honey, lemon, and spices is sure to warm you up on a cold day, and it may even help relieve your symptoms if you’re feeling a little under the weather. While most toddies are made with hot water and lemon, this version uses apple cider for an extra dose of seasonal goodness.
Spiced Mulled Wine Recipe
Mulled wine is one of my favorite things about winter. No matter how cold or dreary it is outside, a cup of hot spiced wine is guaranteed to warm your body and your spirit. It's also super easy to make, and you can even make it ahead for a party; just put all the ingredients in a pot and start warming them a few minutes before guests arrive. (Bonus: It will make your house smell amazing.) Want an even more hands-off approach?
Boulevardier Cocktail

If any of these things are true, the Boulevardier—which is made with whiskey, Campari, and sweet vermouth—is the cocktail for you.
If You Love Scotch, You Have to Try This Cozy Cocktail
Nancy Mitchell In This Recipe History What Does It Taste Like Blended Scotch Peated Scotch Quick, think of a Scotch cocktail! It's hard, isn't it? Scotch, although a formidable spirit in its own right, doesn't often appear in cocktails, because its smokiness presents a challenge. Gentler whiskeys, like rye and bourbon, play nicer with other ingredients. But if there's one Scotch cocktail worth knowing, it's the Penicillin.
Whiskey Sour Cocktail Recipe (With Egg White)
You may remember a Whiskey Sour as that fairly terrible drink you had once at a dim but thrilling college bar, but as is the case with many cocktails, the Whiskey Sour lives and dies on its ingredients. Whiskey Sours have been around for a long time, and at their simplest they're made with just whiskey, citrus, and a sweet ingredient, like simple syrup. But add just one or two special ingredients to that recipe, and you have a very different drink entirely.
Your New Favorite Brunch Cocktail: The French 75 Made With Gin and Champagne
A French 75 looks fancy, but it's actually quite easy to make. Take a gin sour (gin, lemon, and simple syrup), add Champagne, and voila! You have a French 75. It's great for parties since you can make it ahead of time, and a good excuse to drink gin at brunch. What's not to like? Why Is It Called a French 75? The French 75 first appeared in print in 1927 and was named for a field gun popular during World War I, supposedly because it packed a similar punch.
