Securing the open frontier with NVIDIA OpenShell and Blaxel sandboxes
Agent safety has become top of mind in recent weeks, specifically focused on where failure modes lie and how to address them. We’re thrilled to support NVIDIA’s Agent Safety Platform, which addresses safety across three critical areas: the application layer, runtime, and infrastructure. As a launch partner for NVIDIA OpenShell and part of the Open Secure AI Alliance, we are working together to further the open, secure frontier, including the stack powering agents in production.
Pembrolizumab and olaparib in homologous-recombination-deficient metastatic pancreatic cancer: the phase 2 POLAR trial
|
Abstract Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) arising from BRCA1or BRCA2 or PALB2 mutations confers sensitivity to platinum chemotherapy and PARP inhibition in pancreatic cancer (PC) and may enable prolonged disease control with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). The phase 2 POLAR trial evaluated maintenance pembrolizumab plus olaparib following platinum-based chemotherapy in biomarker-stratified metastatic PC.

Multiannual environmental forcing shapes breeding phenology and success in a subantarctic seabird
Abstract Climate-driven phenological mismatches threaten avian reproduction by disrupting food availability during critical breeding stages. In marine ecosystems, time lags between environmental changes and their effects on food webs are challenging to model, yet they can have a profound impact on top-predator reproduction.
Human contributions to global soundscapes are less predictable than the acoustic rhythms of wildlife - Nature Ecology & Evolution
|
Abstract Across the world, human (anthropophonic) sounds add to sounds of biological (biophonic) and geophysical (geophonic) origin, with human contributions including both speech and technophony (sounds of technological devices). To characterize society’s contribution to the global soundscapes, we used passive acoustic recorders at 139 sites across 6 continents, sampling both urban green spaces and nearby pristine sites continuously for 3 years in a paired design.

Snowmelt and laying date impact the parental care strategy of a high-Arctic shorebird - Scientific Reports
Abstract Why parental care strategies can vary from uniparental to biparental care across taxa remains unclear, likely because various sets of ecological conditions are at-play. Here we tested ten possible hypotheses to decipher the direct and indirect impacts of critical factors likely to influence the parental care strategy during incubation in Sanderlings (Calidris alba), one of the few species that uses both types of care during that critical time of the breeding cycle.

Expert elicitation of state shifts and divergent sensitivities to climate warming across northern ecosystems - Communications Earth & Environment
|
Abstract Northern regions are warming faster than the rest of the globe. It is difficult to predict ecosystem responses to warming because the thermal sensitivity of their biophysical components varies. Here, we present an analysis of the authors’ expert judgment regarding the sensitivity of six ecosystem components – permafrost, peatlands, lakes, snowpack, vegetation, and endothermic vertebrates – across northern landscapes ranging from boreal to polar biomes.

Unmasking Antarctica’s biodiversity - Nature Geoscience
Tracking biodiversity potential is time-sensitive under climate change, especially in the most remote areas. A new analysis fulfils a long-standing need to map the terrestrial vegetation across Antarctica — a crucial step to identify carbon and nutrient cycling hotspots.
Harnessing large language models for coding, teaching and inclusion to empower research in ecology and evolution
1 INTRODUCTION Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly expanding field, with myriad uses in ecology and evolution (Borowiec et al., 2022; Christin et al., 2019; Han et al., 2023; Pichler & Hartig, 2023; Tabak et al., 2019). Although AI is not new, the increasing availability of resources such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT and Dall-E is leading to more researchers and students using these tools for research and study.

ECOGEN: Bird sounds generation using deep learning
1 INTRODUCTION Passive acoustic monitoring using automated recorders has gained popularity in ecology, encompassing a wide range of species and applications (Sugai et al., 2019). However, the utilization of large-scale projects often results in an overwhelming accumulation of data that becomes arduous, if not nearly impossible, to analyse manually (Browning et al., 2017).

Range-wide whole-genome resequencing of the brown bear reveals drivers of intraspecies divergence - Communications Biology
Abstract Population-genomic studies can shed new light on the effect of past demographic processes on contemporary population structure. We reassessed phylogeographical patterns of a classic model species of postglacial recolonisation, the brown bear (Ursus arctos), using a range-wide resequencing dataset of 128 nuclear genomes.

Effects of geolocators on hatching success, return rates, breeding movements, and change in body mass in 16 species of Arctic-breeding shorebirds
|
Geolocators are useful for tracking movements of long-distance migrants, but potential negative effects on birds have not been well studied. We tested for effects of geolocators (0.8–2.0 g total, representing 0.1–3.9 % of mean body mass) on 16 species of migratory shorebirds, including five species with 2–4 subspecies each for a total of 23 study taxa. Study species spanned a range of body sizes (26–1091 g) and eight genera, and were tagged at 23 breeding and eight nonbreeding sites.
