(WSET) — As America marks 250 years of freedom, a powerful part of that story lives in Bedford, Virginia: the National D-Day Memorial Over the past 25 years, sharp cracks have split the stillness of the sacred grounds of this memorial. They sound ominously like live rifle rounds that pierced the water and haunted young Americans on June 6, 1944. D-Day was a critical turning point of World War II.

JAMESTOWN, Va. (WSET) — As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we’re often reminded of its history of struggles for freedom. Long before America declared independence, Virginia was already burning with division. In 1676, fragile Jamestown fractured. Farmers and frontier families, servants and enslaved people. They were angry over the treatment they received from their government. So much so, they rose against the British crown’s representative in Virginia: Royal Governor Sir William Berkeley.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — AFFORDABILITY Virginia lawmakers and those running for statewide office promised to save you money. But during the 60-day legislative session in Richmond, did they deliver? ABC 13 investigated the top legislative bills affecting your taxes, housing, wages, healthcare and energy bills. The results were not very encouraging, according to University of Lynchburg economist Gerald Prante. “They didn’t do much, I don’t think, in terms of affordability,” said Prante.
