A review of indoor air quality interventions and child neurobehavioral outcomes
Children are uniquely vulnerable to the neurotoxic effects of air pollution because their brains continue to develop throughout childhood. Indoor air pollution comprises a mixture of several pollutants and is influenced by both indoor and outdoor air pollutant sources.
Training Community-Academic Teams to Use Low-Cost Air Monitors: A Mixed Method Evaluation of the RISE Communities Program
You are already at the latest version Concerns regarding poor air quality in environmental justice communities frequently motivate formation of community-academic partnerships. Low-cost air monitors can assess air pollution but require specific training. The RISE Communities program was created to support partnerships in air quality training and community engaged research. The RISE Communities program in-person training took place in Cincinnati, OH in summers 2023 and 2024.

Differences in socio-demographic and environmental exposures at home vs. school in the ECHO cohort
Abstract Social and environmental exposures, typically characterized at residential locations, are linked to adverse respiratory outcomes in children; yet, children spend a significant amount of time in school. Little is known about how socio-demographic and environmental exposures vary between home and school settings. The objectives of this study were to compare home and school exposures and to assess whether these differences were consistent across cities and varied by home-school distance.
A neural-symbolic AI agent system for biomedical concept mapping
Abstract Concept mapping links free-text descriptions to standardized concepts in biomedical terminologies and ontologies. Existing approaches fall into two main categories: rule-based systems, which are interpretable but struggle with ambiguity and scalability, and learning-based methods, which leverage contextual signals but perform poorly on long-tail concepts due to limited training data and offer limited explainability.
Real-world evidence for comparative safety of second-line antihyperglycemic agents in older adults with type 2 diabetes
|
Abstract As prescribing of newer antihyperglycemic agents expands, there remains limited comparative safety data for older adults—a population particularly vulnerable to adverse drug events and underrepresented in clinical trials. We conduct a multinational cohort study using nine databases from the U.S. and Europe. Among adults aged ≥65, we compare eighteen safety outcomes across four classes of second-line antihyperglycemic agents.

In Vitro Senescence and Senolytic Functional Assays
In Vitro Senescence and Senolytic Functional Assays Detailed understanding of aging biology and developing anti-aging therapeutic strategies are imperative but represent intrinsic challenges due to the lengthy nature of the aging process. Aging occurs naturally during repeated cell replication but also accelerates under clinical treatments or exposure to toxic environments.
Ookla Speedtest for Global Broadband Performance in Living Atlas
ArcGIS Blog Ookla Speedtest for Global Broadband Performance is available within ArcGIS Living Atlas. This ready-to-use layer shows global fixed broadband and mobile (cellular) network performance metrics in zoom level 16 web Mercator tiles (approximately 610.8 meters by 610.8 meters at the equator). Download speed, upload speed, and latency are collected via the Speedtest by Ookla applications for Android and iOS and averaged for each tile.
Predicting future exacerbations in uncontrolled asthma: A discovery/validation approach using large-scale clinical proteomics
With use of a log fold change of at least 1.5 and a P value of .05 as cutoffs, univariate analysis identified 533 differentially abundant sputum proteins in participants with and without future exacerbations over the ensuing 48 weeks.

This ready-to-use layer shows fixed broadband availability for every Census Block and H3 Resolution-8 hexagonal area in the U.S. and outlying territories. The layer summarizes the June 2024 BDC data showing the number of served, underserved, and unserved Broadband Serviceable Locations (BSLs) in total and by transmission technology for a given geography.
How Old ‘Redlining’ Policies Still Affect Childhood Asthma Risk
Research By: Patrick Ryan, PhD, MS asthma exposures housing systemic racism An old government policy that determined who was eligible to receive government-supported home refinancing based on the race, ethnicity, and immigration status of neighborhood residents known as “redlining” was banned decades ago. Even so, children growing up now in many of the affected neighborhoods are still paying a price in the form of higher risk of developing asthma.

Report-Back of Personal Air Sampling Results and Study Participants’ Perceived Knowledge, Attitudes, and Awareness of Air Pollution
: Environmental Health Perspectives Volume 131, Issue 11 CID: 117702 Introduction Report-back of chemical exposure data to participants in biomonitoring studies has been shown to be beneficial to participants and researchers, and guidebooks are available regarding best practices to develop report-back materials.1–3 Considerably less research, however, has been conducted on the report-back of data collected from studies that employ personal or wearable air monitors that measure georeferenced...
CommonSpirit Health, Press Ganey leaders on patient engagement
The healthcare industry is facing a wide variety of challenges—and solutions aren’t always straightforward. Each month, Modern Healthcare asks leaders in the field to weigh in on their approaches to the sector’s thorny issues. Camille Haycock, senior vice president of patient experience at CommonSpirit Health, and Patrick Ryan, chair and CEO at Press Ganey, discuss how healthcare organizations are working to center patient engagement amid growing competition.
Getting "back to basics" with Human Experience healthcare
Co-authored by Dr. Thomas H. Lee, Chief Medical Officer, Press Ganey In a period of unprecedented duress, leaders of many healthcare organizations are emphasizing the importance of getting “back to basics.” That advice makes sense, because focusing on top priorities is essential when there are so many threats from so many directions. But what are the basics, when healthcare is facing so much pressure for change? The people are changing (the patients, consumers, and the workforce).
What Makes Health Care Workers Stay in Their Jobs?
Ask leaders of health care organizations about their top three challenges for the year ahead, and many answer, “Workforce, workforce, and workforce.” These leaders go on to say that they are struggling to recruit and retain caregivers of all types, that the costs are breaking their budgets, and that morale is at historic lows. As a direct result, every type of performance is suffering: financial, safety, and overall quality, including the patient experience.
Concomitant Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy Reduces the Risk of Revision Surgery After Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction for the Treatment of Patellar Instability
To compare postoperative complication rates between patients who underwent medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) and those who underwent MPFLR with tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) in a large-scale study. A secondary goal was to investigate demographic associations with outcomes. Patients who underwent MPFLR (n = 3,480) or MPFLR-TTO (n = 615) for patellar instability were identified in the PearlDiver database.

Medicare E&M coding changes and EHR physician burnout
The relationship between EHR and burnout is now well established, according to researchers A recent article published in Vascular Specialist summarized data regarding the undeniable relationship between electronic health records (EHRs) and burnout amongst physicians. There is ample irony in the fact that a graph depicting the increased focus on “physician wellbeing” in 2021 is effectively the inverse plot of a graph showing increased utilization of the EHR.
OBL: In praise of the office-based interventional lab
Four private practice vascular surgeons pen a rebuttal in praise of the OBL Vascular surgery has undergone dramatic changes over the last 30 years. What was once a traditional open surgical discipline has now become a hybrid specialty that involves open surgery and endovascular techniques. As vascular surgeons became more adept at endovascular interventions, the venue in which to do these procedures became more important.
Preparing for arrival of CMS Quality Payment Program year 4
It’s here: 2020 is year four of the Quality Payment Program (QPP), established by the Medicare Access and Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (MACRA) in 2015. QPP requires that most physicians who submit claims to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) participate in one of two programs to avoid a reimbursement penalty: the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) or an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM).
