Asking Australia for an Indigenous voice isn’t new – it’s been a long and difficult struggle
What can history show us about the significance of the referendum on 14 October? If “history is calling”, whose voices from the past can we hear? In April, the Australian National University became one of the nation’s first universities to “unreservedly” declare its support for “enshrining an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice in the constitution”.

Moderna’s Skin Cancer Vaccine - Plus Immunotherapy - Shows Promise Against Melanoma
Cancer, Skin An experimental skin cancer vaccine is poised for the fast track. Moderna’s mRNA vaccine for melanoma, in combination with an immunotherapy drug by Merck, received a special “breakthrough therapy” designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That opens the door for expedited development and review. It also shows the promise of mRNA technology to treat the deadliest skin cancer — and potentially, other cancers too.

Prediction of Neutropenic Events in Chemotherapy Patients: A Machine Learning Approach
Abstract Severe and febrile neutropenia present serious hazards to patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. We seek to develop a machine learning–based neutropenia prediction model that can be used to assess risk at the initiation of a chemotherapy cycle. We leverage rich electronic medical records (EMRs) data from a large health care system and apply machine learning methods to predict severe and febrile neutropenic events.
My Asian-American life so far: A high school student on the discrimination he’s faced and the hope he sees
By Peter Yu New York Daily News | Jun 05, 2021 at 6:00 AM Students (Shutterstock/Shutterstock) Growing up, I never gave very much thought to my last name, my outward appearance, or what language I spoke at home. Like a million other kids in the United States, I played with Beyblades, collected Star Wars Legos and loved to watch Pokémon cartoons. As far as I was concerned, I was a perfectly “normal” American kid. As I grew older, however, I gradually began to realize that that was not the case.

MiR-34a regulates the invasive capacity of canine osteosarcoma cell lines
RT-qPCR demonstrated that miR-34a expression levels were significantly reduced in primary canine OSA tumors and canine OSA cell lines as compared to normal canine osteoblasts. In canine OSA cell lines stably transduced with empty vector or pre-miR-34a lentiviral constructs, overexpression of miR-34a inhibited cellular invasion and migration but had no effect on cell proliferation or cell cycle distribution.
Customizing Fair Use Transplants

Target specificity, in vivo pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of the putative STAT3 inhibitor LY5 in osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma
STAT3 is a transcription factor involved in cytokine and receptor kinase signal transduction that is aberrantly activated in a variety of sarcomas, promoting metastasis and chemotherapy resistance. The purpose of this work was to develop and test a novel putative STAT3 inhibitor, LY5. An in silico fragment-based drug design strategy was used to create LY5, a small molecule inhibitor that blocks the STAT3 SH2 domain phosphotyrosine binding site, inhibiting homodimerization.
