Flint City Council approves one-year data center moratorium

No new data center projects will be considered in Flint for a full year after the city council passed a moratorium so they can take time to study their effects. FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - The Flint City Council passed a 12-month moratorium on data centers within the city in a 7-1 vote Monday evening. During the moratorium, no permit applications, site plans or construction for data centers will be accepted or processed by city officials.

Flint man charged with arson for St. Mark Missionary Baptist fire

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - A Flint man has been charged with intentionally setting fire to St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church last August. Documents filed with U.S. District Court last Friday show Billy J. Chambers is charged with arson, obstruction of persons in the free exercise of religious beliefs and arson to commit a federal offense. He is accused of setting fire to the church around 2:16 a.m. on Aug. 30, 2025, and causing major damage.
