Sam Doak
VerifiedSam Doak’s Biography
Whilst completing my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees I was been an active member of The Glasgow Guardian's editorial team. I wrote prolifically during my time at the The Glasgow Guardian and was responsible for producing three of the paper's five most read articles over the last year.
Notable stories that I have worked on during my time as a student journalist have included:
● Exposing the extent of the University of Glasgow's investment in arms manufacturers. The University is now exploring divestment from this sector due to the attention that this story received.
● Uncovering a Brexit Party parliamentary candidate's history of posting racist and otherwise problematic content on social media.
● Revealing links between the University of Glasgow's Catholic Chaplain and Courage International, a group that has been argued to practice a variation of conversion therapy.
● Reporting that a prominent letting agency was lying to tenants about the loss and theft of their personal information.
I believe my that my competence as a journalist is best evidenced by the fact that I have won or been shortlisted for a total of six national awards for my writing during the previous academic year.
