Winners for The Big Squeeze Contest were announced on June 29. The Big Squeeze, formerly known as Lemonade Day, took place on June 13, where many young entrepreneurs set up stands across town. The event offered youth a hands-on learning opportunity to run their own business. Two stands were selected as Big Squeeze Boss Winners, including Oscar Winter’s Oscy’s Lemonade and Mya Veleti’s Mya’s Bussin’ Lemonade, for their insightful business results forms.

Sylvan Lake lacrosse has had some big accomplishments this season. Currently, the Sylvan Lake Minor Lacrosse Association (SLMLA) is bigger than it has ever been, SLMLA president Chris Jervis said. “We have done a lot of training with the schools in Sylvan Lake and surrounding communities, taking over their gym programs and teaching them all about the history and the sport of lacrosse, which I think has a lot to do with the growth.” Sylvan Lake is becoming a major hub for lacrosse, he added.

During July, I love to try reading more books by Canadian authors. I find that many of the books I read are by authors from the U.S., the U.K., or, in general, outside of Canada. In July, I like to change that by focusing on Canadian work. There is so much talent in this country that it is easy to find books written by Canadian authors to read. In case others were also hoping to read more Canadian authors this month, I thought I would share some Canadian authors whose books I personally enjoy.
