The Muppet Show Earns Six Emmy Nominations
By Shane Keating The 78th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards have just been announced, and guess what?
4th Annual Children and Family Emmy Winners
By Shane Keating Last night (March 3rd) was the 4th annual Children and Family Emmy Awards, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. John Tartaglia, who I assume you are familiar with, served as host for the evening, tellin’ jokes and doing various costume changes.
Oh, Hi! A Video Tribute To Roscoe Orman
Some time ago, I was listening to some interview with Muppet performer Stephanie D’Abruzzo. I don’t remember when this was or what podcast/show it was on, so I can’t recall 100% of what she said. But, she was talking about Sesame Street and mentioned that she always considered Roscoe Orman (who has played Gordon since 1974) as the “king” of the “Welcome to Sesame Street!” thing that all the characters do.

Opinion: Green Line a partnership in name only
Advertisement 1 Article content After 11 years on Calgary city council, my proudest moments were spent advocating for the Green Line LRT project. My stance is the same as it has always been — I’ll fight for the southeast, but not at the expense of the rest of the city. Construction starting in the southeast is a positive and a must, but the province’s downtown alignment will do irreparable harm to the rest of the city.
Coming Soon: The Muppet Movie Picture Book
Picture this: you’re a college sophomore who has to write a term paper on The Muppet Movie. While it may sound fun, like any piece of homework, you’ve procrastinated on it by chatting with friends in the dining hall or playing pool in the arcade. But oh uh, it’s Thursday and your paper is due in one hour! You can’t possibly watch a 97 movie in that time! If only there was some kind of condensed, simplistic way to get the gist of the story in a quick fashion.
Statler and Waldorf to Appear at The Game Awards
The Muppets have somehow become inexplicably synonymous with The Game Awards for several years now, which seems strange, but it’s the reality we live in. In the past, the likes of Pepe, Animal, Gonzo, Bunsen, Beaker, a goose, and the Swedish Chef have made live (or pre-recorded) appearances at the annual ceremony. Gee whiz, that’s basically every character! Surely there are none left besides, um, Doglion. What? I’m wrong? There’s two others getting a shot?
My Week with The Alphabet Thieves: Part Three
Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 Welcome back! We’ve reached the third and final chapter in our coverage of the unmade Sesame Street film, The Alphabet Thieves! Click here to revisit part one and part two. This edition features visuals from our friend Noah Ginex! When last we left our heroes, they had all been ensnared in one way or another by the baddies of the Land of Make Believe.
My Week with The Alphabet Thieves: Part Two
Welcome back to our coverage of the unproduced Sesame Street movie The Alphabet Thieves. Please click here to revisit part one To recap where we are so far: Some literary villains have stolen all the letters of the alphabet and plan to turn it into soup, destroying them permanently.
My Week with The Alphabet Thieves: Part One
Several moons ago, I speculated as to why certain letters of the alphabet have not been seen as the “Letter of the Day” on Sesame Street in a few years. I came up with several logical reasons, but there was one that I thought was completely improbable and not worth adding: some wacky scenario where a bunch of villains from fairy tales and storybooks stole them from all over the Earth. Sounds totally ridiculous, right?
Before You Leap to Be Reprinted and Recorded
Before You Leap was a 2006 book presented as a faux-memoir written by Kermit the Frog (sorry if I’m shattering the illusion, there), detailing his career in show business and life advice. I’ll admit, I’ve never read it, but I can only assume the later half is full of things like “Mosquitoes are a bad midnight snack.” Anywho, the book was reprinted in 2012 with some changes, trying to catch that Muppet fever instilled by the Jason Segel movie.
Miss Piggy Races Into Disney Speedstorm
A few months ago, we reported that Kermit the Frog had become a playable racer in Disney’s Speedstorm racing game, the only Muppet character at the time (obviously, Dr. Finkelstein from Nightmare Before Christmas was a higher priority than the guy who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame). But finally, he has a fellow Muppet to exchange insurance information with – Miss Piggy! That’s right! Miss Piggy has now joined the game in the newest season.
Presenting Wave 3 of Super7's Sesame Street Figures
Super7’s line of Sesame Street ReAction figures have brought some famous and fairly merchandise-less characters to shelves over the last few months. The fact that I can buy a Lefty the Salesman figure in 2024 is a joy unlike no other. What other characters are in store?
D23 Expo 2024: Miss Piggy's Archive, Frank the Legend, and More!
This weekend was the biennial D23 Expo, which had a lot of great news and reveals if you’re a fan of Disney remakes and Pixar sequels. If you’re a fan of the Muppets like us, well…the pickins were slim.
Is the shallow pool in Paris really slowing Olympic swimmers down? Here’s what the science says
There has been plenty of rain, sweat and tears shed at the Paris Olympics this week. But the pool at the heart of La Defénce Arena has suffered a drought of world records that has athletes and officials scratching their heads. After five days, Paris 2024 has seen only a single world record fall in a swimming event. That compares with six new swimming world records set at Tokyo in 2021 and eight at Rio in 2018.
Swimming, Olympics 2024: Science behind the lack of new world records in Paris

Muppet Clue Coming Soon
Picture this: it’s Saturday night, it’s raining, and you and your friends are looking for something to occupy your time. Suddenly, a random thought enters your mind. You asks your pals, “Say, have you ever wondered what it would be like to kill Fozzie Bear with a random object in a random room of a fancy house?” Your friends reply, “Of course, but there’s no way we can do that!” Suddenly, your landline rings.

Unravelled - ToughPigs
Let’s see…corkboard, string, unfocused photographs…oh, hello! I did not see you there! I’m just over here preparing to blow people’s minds by exposing a conspiracy nearly 26 years in the making. Ya’ know, normal Saturday night business. What conspiracy am I a-tryin’ to bust open? Well, I’ll tells ya. It involves a certain furry, red monster and a supposed “world” of his.
First Look at NECA's Sesame Street Figure Line
Just a few short weeks ago, we reported that NECA would be producing some figures of Bert and Ernie as a part of their “Toony TV” line. Those figures are rather stylized, to fit that theme. It has now be revealed at SDCC that NECA is working on new Sesame Street line of figures that are hewing more to screen-accuracy.
The Fantastic Miss Piggy Podcast: "The Look of Love" Video Companion
“The Look of Love,” an episode of our recent podcast The Fantastic Miss Piggy Podcast, provided an fascinating discussion on the many ways Miss Piggy has visually evolved since the 1970s. Danny Horn, Peter Savieri, and Jamie Caroll dove deep into what separates a good Piggy puppet from a bad one in more detail than you could possible fathom. But, we understand that it might be just ever so difficult to follow along with such a visual-heavy discussion in an audio-only format.
Hear Some Jim Henson: Idea Man Score Samples
It’s almost the big day, the release of Ron Howard’s documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man. But May 31st won’t bring us just the motion picture, it also will bring us the official soundtrack! David Fleming’s score will be released digitally across all the platforms on which one can listen to music on. So, once you’ve watched the movie and cried your eyes out, you can listen to the score all by itself and presumably cry some more.
Watch: CBS Honors Miss Piggy's 50-Year Career
Miss Piggy’s onscreen career has just reached five decades, which is more than you can for the likes of Mr. Ed. To commemorate the occasion, CBS Saturday Mornings produced the following feature on our favorite divine swine. Not only does Piggy get interviewed, but there’s also a great focus on those who’ve helped bring her to life in many ways – designer Bonnie Erickson, performer Eric Jacobson, and Barbara Miller of the Museum of the Moving Image, where a Piggy puppet is proudly on display.
Kermit the Frog Joining Disney Speedstorm
Muppet RaceMania came out over two decades ago and the itch to play a game where a Muppet drives a kart in a wacky, IP-based racing scenario has yet to be scratched…until now! Variety reports that Kermit the Frog will be one of the new additions to the Disney Speedstorm racing game in Season 7, finally bringing some Muppet representation to the game of which I will admit I know nothing about.
New Sesame Street Comic Book Series Launches This Summer
It’s been many ages and moons since Sesame Street was last seen in comic book form. The first series of Sesame comics started in 2013, and then the rest of the issues didn’t come out until years later. Obviously trying to avoid saturating the market. But now, the shelves are Muppet-free, which means there’s no competition to be had for a new series of Sesame comics! This new wave of Sesame comic books is coming from Oni Press, and will start hitting comic book shelves starting August 28, 2024.
Energetic inception of breaking in surface gravity waves under wind forcing
The breaking of surface gravity waves is a key process contributing to air-sea fluxes and turbulent ocean mixing. The highly nonlinear nature of wave breaking, combined with the challenges of observing this process in a laboratory or field setting, leaves our understanding of the energetic processes underpinning wave breaking incomplete. Progress towards refining this understanding was made in a recent study [D. G. Boettger, S. R. Keating, M. L. Banner, R. P. Morison, and X.
Review: Back to the Rock S2 - Episode 4 ‘The Repeatee Birds’
To sum up this episode in 5 phrases: Boy, Twitter kinda sucks, huh? To sum up this episode in a number of phrases: Here we’re, again for season two, child! Last season, I lined the episode “The Merggle Moon Migration,” which tackled a really fashionable difficulty of misinformation within the digital age (though Fraggles haven’t any computer systems).

To sum up this episode in five words: Boy, Twitter kinda sucks, huh? To sum up this episode in several words: Here we are, back for season two, baby! Last season, I covered the episode “The Merggle Moon Migration,” which tackled a very modern issue of misinformation in the digital age (even though Fraggles have no computers).
Little Bird Plush Arrives at Sesame Place
Spring is here and once more, that means the annual Sesame Street Classic Character will peak its head out from the Dead Muppets cabinet at the Henson Workshop and find itself on the shelves in plush form at Sesame Place, ready to be taken to their new forever home. In past years, we’ve seen the re-emergence of such characters as Herry Monster, Barkley, and Alice Snuffleupagus.
Jim Henson Documentary Gets Release Date
Boy, news travels fast these days, huh? It seems like just a couple of days ago we were reporting on the title of Ron Howard’s upcoming Jim Henson documentary or the tie-in reissuing of Karen Falk’s Imagination Illustrated book. Well, guess what? We’ve got even MORE news to bring you about Jim Henson: Idea Man! First off, as the headline suggests, we’ve got a release date! You’ll be able to stream the new documentary on May 31, 2024 on Disney+.
Sesame Street Coming to the American Dream
Sesame Street really is the longest street in the world – it starts in New York and goes to Langhorn, PA, Orlando, FL, and San Diego, CA. But soon, New Jersey will get its own Sesame Street, and as a life-long Jersey resident, I say it’s about dang time. The recently-rejuvenated American Dream Mall, located in East Rutherford, has tons of shops and indoor attractions based on existing intellectual properties, such as Nickelodeon and DreamWorks.

Fraggle Rock: 40 Years Later
Synopsis: Mokey leaves Fraggle Rock behind to join Cantus and become a Minstrel, which is easier said than done. Original air date: February 13, 1984 Ya know, when I was much, much younger, I wanted to be a cartoonist. I have pages and pages of drawings and doodles of Muppets, Calvin and Hobbes, Scooby-Doo, and also my own characters and comics. But at a certain point, I realized there were people who were my age, but way better as artists than I was, and I eventually gave up on that.
Rumor: More Sesame Funko Pops On The Way
It’s been several years since Funko produced any more Pop figures based on our friends from Sesame Street. Well, rumor has it that the dry spell is about to end. FunkoInfo on Instagram is claiming that another wave of Sesame Pops is rumored to be on the way. This wave will include Elmo and Tango (packed together), the Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and a deluxe Big Bird in his nest. Now, three of these characters have already been made into Pops in the first set of Sesame figures back in 2015.

Listen to music? Talk to each other? Watch Ishtar on DVD? Well, no need to worry, because Sesame Workshop has the answer – listen to Elmo’s new podcast! 2023 Children's and Family Emmy Nominations
In the last year, the Muppets, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock put out some new productions, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences believes they were good enough to possibly win some Emmy awards! Following its creation last year, their productions are now nominated under the “Children’s and Family Emmy” awards, which included some new puppetry-based categories. Boy, it would be embarrassing if the Muppets didn’t make the cut there.
A monster eddy current is spinning into existence off the coast of Sydney-will it bring a new marine heat wave?
by Moninya Roughan, Amandine Schaeffer Junde Li, and Shane Keating, Right now, there's something big spinning off the coast from Sydney-a giant rotating vortex of sea water, powerful enough to dominate the ocean currents off south-eastern Australia. Oceanographers describe these spinning water bodies as "eddies"-but they're not the small eddy currents you see in creeks or rivers. Ocean eddies are enormous.

Henson Happenings at NYCC - 2023
New York Comic Con – our own personal Christmas – has come and gone for another season. Between the comics, the pop culture, the costumes, the art, the merchandise, and the aforementioned and thinly-veiled reference to Christmas, it’s prime for Muppet fans like us. The only thing missing from Comic Con to make it actually perfect is Muppet stuff.
Sesame Street Season 54 Premieres November 9
What’s new with that wacky gang of furry folks on Sesame Street? We’ll find out soon, as Season 54 is set to premiere on Max on Thursday, November 9. This season’s curriculum is continuing the show’s “Celebrating You, Celebrating” me theme, with a lot of the street stories focusing on celebrating everyone’s cultural uniqueness. We’ll also be properly introduced to some new Muppet characters, including Lalo, TJ, and Yasmine.
Climate change hits ocean currents
We have seen dramatic changes in fast, narrow rivers of seawater called western boundary currents, such as the Gulf Stream and the East Australian Current. These currents funnel heat from the tropics towards the poles, and in recent decades they have become hotspots for ocean warming. In the Southern Hemisphere, they are warming two to three times faster than the global average Earth’s ocean is incredibly vast.
Muppet Wiki Completes Its Sesame Street Episode Guide
It was once unthinkable – a complete episode guide of every episode of Sesame Street from 1969 to the present day. Not only were there hundreds… nay, thousands of episodes to catalog, but due to the nature of how it’s produced and aired (and TiVo not being invented yet), many of the episodes had not been seen since their initial TV debut. Much of the show had become a mystery, with only the smallest fraction of the series turning up in syndication or on DVD.
Is climate change disrupting ocean currents? Tracking with satellites and research vessels
Earth’s ocean is incredibly vast. Some parts of it are so remote that the nearest human habitation is the International Space Station. As the world warms, what happens in the ocean – and what happens to the ocean – will be vital to all our lives. But to monitor what’s happening in remote waters, we need to study the ocean from space. Late last year, NASA and CNES, the French space agency, launched a satellite that promises to give scientists a far better view than ever before of the ocean’s surface.
