Topology and evolution of global transcriptional regulatory networks across the Klebsiella pneumoniae pan-genome
Abstract Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) is a global pathogen, yet the regulatory mechanisms governing its virulence and antimicrobial resistance are poorly understood. Here, we characterize 370 transcription factors (TFs) and their binding profiles in a clinical isolate CR-HvKP4, and construct a global gene regulatory network. Using topological analysis, we identify and validate key virulence and antibiotic resistance regulators.
Chromosome-level haplotype-resolved genome assembly of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Mu-Tou-Hui ( Patrinia heterophylla )
Abstract Patrinia heterophylla (“Mu-Tou-Hui”) is a perennial herb valued in traditional Chinese medicine, as well as for its edible and ornamental properties. In this study, we present the first chromosome-scale, haplotype-resolved genome assembly of P. heterophylla, constructed by integrating PacBio HiFi long-read sequencing with Hi-C technology. The assembly consists of two haplotypes with sizes of 554.92 Mb (haplotype A) and 555.88 Mb (haplotype B).

Monsoon–ocean competition shapes the record-low 2023 western North Pacific tropical cyclone season
Abstract Tropical cyclone (TC) activity over the western North Pacific (WNP), the most active TC basin worldwide, is generally viewed as being controlled by remote oceanic forcing, especially the El Niño–Southern Oscillation. However, oceanic forcing alone cannot fully explain variability in TC genesis. Here we show that the record-low WNP typhoon season of 2023 emerged from strong seasonal asymmetry rather than uniform suppression.
Unlocking bipolar electrode-electrolyte solid-solid conversion in aqueous zinc-halogen batteries for high Zn utilization across various cell formats
Abstract The increasing demand for high-energy-density batteries pushes practical aqueous Zn-based batteries. However, high Zn utilization achieved in coin symmetric cells is unable to translate to full cells, especially large pouch cells, due to the poor reversibility of Zn and capacity output of high-loading positive electrodes.
Design method for vibration fatigue suppression of railway freight car body structures and its full-scale vehicle verification
Abstract This study investigates the frequent early cracking of sidewall welds in a specific export railway hopper car under mechanized vibration unloading conditions, aiming to reveal the fracture mechanism and propose an effective suppression method. The investigation revealed that the first-order local natural frequency of the original sidewall structure was highly coupled with the operating frequency of the unloading equipment.
La Niña’s longevity shapes Bering Sea ice fate
Abstract La Niña events vary widely in duration, from single-year to multi-year. However, their influence on Bering Sea ice concentration remains unclear. Here, we show that single-year and multi-year La Niña events produce contrasting impacts on spring Bering Sea ice concentration. Multi-year events mitigate the long-term decline—without them, the rate of ice loss would be 11.1% higher.
TNFAIP8 polarity proteins mediate T cell development by propagating lipid second messenger signaling in thymocytes
Abstract T lymphocytes are primarily generated in the thymus through a complex process of positive and negative selections. The molecular mechanisms underlying this process are not fully understood. Here, we report that TNFAIP8 (TNF-α-induced protein 8-like) family of polarity proteins mediates T cell development by propagating phosphoinositide signaling in the thymus.

Downfield magnetic resonance signals serve as endogenous imaging biomarkers of nucleotide metabolism in glioma - Communications Biology
Abstract Gliomas, the most common primary brain tumors, exhibit profound metabolic alterations that can be non-invasively probed using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Compared to upfield signals in traditional MRS, downfield signals exhibit complex composition with limited understanding of their metabolite origins. Correlating high-throughput metabolic profiles provided by untargeted metabolomics with MRS signals can help elucidate the origins of metabolites in MRS.

Approximate Analytical Solution for Lowest Water Level of One-Way Surge Tank in Long-Distance Pipeline System during Hydraulic Transients
Practical Applications The one-way surge tank (OWST) is a crucial water hammer mitigation device in long-distance pipeline systems. If the lowest water level (LWL) during a transient event drops below the bottom elevation of the OWST, air enters the pipeline, which will pose potential engineering hazards. Therefore, accurately determining the LWL is a critical task in OWST design.
Spatiotemporal distribution and driving factors of atmospheric pollutants in the U-Chang-Shi urban agglomeration, Northwestern China
The U-Chang-Shi urban agglomeration lies at the core of the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountain economic belt in Xinjiang, serving as a pivotal node in the Belt and Road Initiative. Although this area covers merely 3.8% of Xinjiang’s total land area, it concentrates over 40% of the region’s population and gross domestic product (GDP) (Li et al., 2002; see Fig. 1), with industrial activities characterized by high energy intensity and dominated by coal chemical and metallurgical sectors.

Research on the Collaborative Optimization of One-Way Surge Tanks Based on Water Hammer Theory and Intelligent Optimization Algorithms
Practical Applications Surge pressures caused by pump failures or abrupt valve operations can severely impact the safety of long-distance water transmission systems, especially in high-elevation or uneven terrains. One-way surge tanks are commonly used to relieve such pressure fluctuations; however, their design typically relies on manual experience and lacks a unified optimization process.
Biguanide-functionalized peptide mimics effectively combat drug-resistant ESKAPE pathogens and meningitis - Nature Communications
Abstract ESKAPE pathogens-induced meningitis seriously threatens human health due to antimicrobial resistance and low permeability of blood-brain barrier (BBB). It’s a promising strategy to combat drug-resistant pathogens using synthetic mimics of host defense peptide (HDP) bearing positive charges that are mainly provided by amine or guanidine. Here, we report that biguanide serves as a type of positively charged moiety to design HDP mimics.
