LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky – a small town in LaRue County more than an hour south of Louisville. He was born on Feb. 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin on his father’s farm. Lincoln’s birthplace in rural central Kentucky brings people from all over the world to visit the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park. His family left Kentucky when Lincoln was around 8 years old.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the greatest inventors in American history once lived and worked in Louisville. Sitting on East Washington Street in the Butchertown neighborhood is a shotgun-style home dating back to the 1850s. One of its most well-known tenants was inventor Thomas Edison. At just 19-years-old, Edison arrived in Louisville after the Civil War in 1866.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's one of the most iconic pieces of equipment used in sports. Louisville Slugger bats are a symbol of success for baseball legends like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. Originally named the “Falls City Slugger,” 17-year-old Bud Hillerich started making the bats in his father’s woodworking shop in Louisville. Now, according to their company legend, Hillerich created the first pro bat for Pete Browning in 1884.
