Minestrone soup with guanciale
A classic winter warmer. Minestrone soup recipe with winter vegetables and guanciale There’s nothing quite as comforting as a slow-cooked dinner to warm up a cold winter night. We’ve updated this minestrone recipe with guanciale to make it extra cosy.
Suppose they had a World Cup and nobody came…
Crippling heat, drug cartels shooting it out with the army and above all, the actions of a deranged lunatic in The White House. When put together with vastly inflated ticket prices, to me it presents a perfect storm of reasons not to travel to America and Mexico to watch World Cup games. Indeed, I can see certain countries potentially pulling out. This year marks the 60th anniversary of England’s World Cup win.
You never buy a used car without a test drive
In my case, it was a used motorbike. Back in the day, with seasonal work on the horizon at Gateshead Council, I spent hard earned savings to buy a bike to get to work on. I was so impatient I didn’t get my mechanically minded mate over to check it out and test ride it. Instead, I had a very short ride around the block as the seller was in a hurry. Then it was mine.

Eddie Howe has got no Plan B!
Eddie Howe has been drawing criticism from some disaffected fans. They claim that he always plays the same formation, that he has no Plan B for when opposing teams realise this and use tactics to combat the sheer predictability. Around teatime on Wednesday I was guilty of this to some extent. Like many fans I could only see one outcome, an absolute hammering, helped by totally biased match officials.
My heartfelt apology to Eddie Howe
My last article (‘I’m sorry but it is time for Eddie Howe to go’ published 15 December 2025) on The Mag was a scathing criticism of Eddie Howe, where I was calling for him to be sacked. I would like to apologise to him and any of you who were offended by it. I’m writing this now when we are still in three cup competitions and are sixth in the Premier League after three league victories in a row and a rekindling of The Entertainers.
Are There Any New Brand Stories Left to Tell?
The Best of Brand Writing Are There Any New Brand Stories Left to Tell? How the most relevant brands are ditching tired storytelling narratives and building connection through micro-moments and real-time cultural signals. They say there are only seven stories in fiction. There’s ‘overcoming the monster’, ‘rags to riches’, ‘the quest’, ‘voyage and return’, ‘comedy’, ‘tragedy’ and ‘rebirth’ – and that’s it. Increasingly, it feels the same is true for brands.
I’m sorry but it is time for Eddie Howe to go
Eddie Howe has aged – he looks haunted. He is devoid of ideas. In my opinion, Eddie Howe is out of his depth and will only drag us down. Eddie Howe lost that derby as he yet again proved that whatever spark that guided us to finally winning us a cup, has been snuffed out. His downfall has affected every player – their one time inspiration and mentor has vanished, leaving them leaderless and confused.

We need to talk about Kieran and Anthony
In this summer’s transfer market, there will be outgoing players to boost Newcastle United’s PSR/FFP position and help to bring on new signings, with Kieran Trippier one of those widely tipped for an exit. I don’t agree with this at all. I say that, instead of Kieran Trippier leaving St James’ Park, he should be encouraged to take his full coaching badges in order to eventually replace Eddie Howe, when the time comes in the future that he will leave us.

Quantifying Climate: How Carbon Accounting is transforming financial decision-making
The UK financial sector is embracing a transformative challenge: carbon accounting. As sustainability reporting evolves from a voluntary exercise to a regulatory imperative, financial institutions are seizing the opportunity to streamline their approach to measuring, reporting and managing their carbon footprint. Temps de lecture : 8 minutes This shift represents not just an environmental concern, but a core element of financial risk management and strategic planning.
AI apprehension: How business leaders can navigate AI risks & harness opportunities for global success
If AI is on your mind, you are not alone. Business leaders say repercussions of using AI technology incorrectly keeps them up at night, with two-thirds of executives reporting that their key concern is financial consequences, according to recent research from G-P. Temps de lecture : 4 minutes While AI offers substantial benefits for business operations, harnessing its full potential requires a strategic approach that encompasses the right people, processes, and risk management.
Recipe for success: what any founder can learn from the golden rules of restaurant design…
You don’t need to be a foodie to have noticed how quickly eating establishments seem to come and go these days. A notoriously saturated market with slim operating margins means that only the best can survive. And with a decades-long career designing restaurants, I’ve witnessed everything from businesses establishing a twelve-month waiting list to those that fold within that same time frame.
How “Emerged” startups are changing the investment geography map
Since the end of the 20th century, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the Balkans, the Baltics, and the South Caucasus have come a long way from almost nothing to what we can now call “emerged” economies. Despite hardships and limited resources, these countries have brought up fantastic tech professionals and startup founders known to be behind unicorns such companies as OpenAI, Grammarly, Miro, Flo, and Revolut.
Brand design bravery
‘Safe’ no longer cuts it in the drinks business. Be clever, be courageous or call time, writes Steve Pearce Bravery in brand design is not a new idea. No one has ever unveiled a new brand design and described it as the safe, expected, and familiar solution. What is new is that to be successful today, particularly in the drinks market, you need to be genuinely brave.
What countries still use analogue TV in 2024?
10 years ago, this thread was posted. Here we are now and Lyngsat still claims that there's a number of analogue channels at 70 degrees west . Other than that, is analogue TV still in use anywhere, be it on satellite, terrestrial or cable? Not counting "in-house" channels in homes, hotels, etc.

Newcastle United owners with stifled ambitions - I thought the UK was a free market economy?
The UK economy is a free market economy, where in general businesses operate with no barriers as to how they are run and operate their affairs. This is how 99.9% of businesses operate. What’s the 0.1% this doesn’t apply to, you may ask yourself? I suspect you already know the answer. Yes – football is the business sector that ignores the principle of freedom of operation, especially in the top tier.

Party snack: Braised beef cheek arancini
Arancini are a classic Italian snack that has stood the test of time. Made with arborio or risotto rice, arancini are typically made with tomato sauce and stuffed with plenty of cheese. In this recipe, we’ve gone for a slightly more luxe touch by stuffing each golden arancini with tender braised beef cheeks. Looking for more classic Italian snacks?
St James' Park replaced by far bigger stadium at Castle Leazes - How objections can be overcome
Castle Leazes Moor has been proposed for the site of our new stadium, as a potential alternative to redeveloping St James’ Park. Back in the 1990s, Sir John Hall, the freemen and our council were all in agreement but after receiving 30,000 objections, the plan was shelved and instead St James’ Park was expanding to its current 52,000+ capacity. So today there would probably be an equal amount of objections to the capacity of a new stadium or even beyond.

Governor should not exploit emergency powers to Infringe on 2nd Amendment rights
There is little debate that New Mexico has been in crisis. Our state had the second-highest violent crime rate in the nation according to 2022 statistics by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. And, as the Biden administration's open-border policies have continued to allow poisonous drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities, New Mexico reported the highest death rate in the nation for people under 40 years old in 2022, with approximately 188 deaths per 100,000 individuals.

The Brand Home Is the Flagship Store’s Next Evolution
Brand experiences go through hype cycles like any other marketing strategy. There was the era of the flagship store, when the likes of Nike, Apple and Topshop blazed a trail of destinations that heightened the shopping experience. Then the pop-up merged brand and retail to provide entertaining, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it occasions to wow customers. Now, we have the metaverse, with all the freedom and creativity of figuring out how to show up in the virtual world.

Play Poker with Eddie Howe? I don't think so
In the days leading up to this Wolves match, like many others I was literally screaming for Eddie Howe to start Alexander Isak in place of the clearly knackered Callum Wilson. I was in such a state that I have to admit that I was cursing Wor Eddie, for not even suggesting that Isak would be starting and was ready for another dull and underachieving draw. Then, on these hallowed black and white pages just before kick-off, I nearly fell off my chair on reading the news that our Swedish was starting.
It appears that a Catarrh-based investment fund has emerged as a bidder for Manchester United
They are offering about four billion to buy Manchester United. My point is this: Will the Premier League spend months stalling their decision in the hope that they will walk away from the deal in frustration? Will the media turn on Manchester United under the aegis of the new ownership and deliberately cause a damaging toxic atmosphere, thus damaging their reputation? Will the sale give rise to insulting and offensive chants from rival supporters?

Melanie Stansbury against House Resolution 11
Steve Pearce Chair, Republican Party of New Mexico Does New Mexico have a real Representative in Melanie Stansbury, or do we have someone that cow tows, and is under the thumb of the Democratic Leadership in Washington? House Resolution 11 which creates a Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party earned an emphatic “nay” from Representative Stansbury when the Resolution came up for a vote.

Could Eddie Howe be the new Stan Seymour?
A hot August day in 1963, saw me taken by my Dad to a sports shop at the corner of Pilgrim Street and Market Street. I had to get my first ever football boots, as I was going to need them when I started at Rutherford Grammar School in September. Inside was a sea of Newcastle United photos depicting us lifting the FA Cup many times and a young player was in some of them…and an older version of himself celebrating with his players.

Just a typical quiet Thursday night...Bruno scores greatest debut Newcastle United goal ever!
As I have said previously, I now approach any game with hope, belief and optimism. However, to travel away to one of our historically bogey teams and rule the roost was phenomenal. The Newcastle United away record at Southampton in the Premier League era had seen only two NUFC wins in 20 visits, with a massive 13 defeats and five draws. Five of those last eight visits had seen Newcastle United fail to score, including last season’s dismal 2-0 defeat under Steve Bruce.
'No more of this ritual humiliation at Newcastle United'
Before our Saudi salvation, I used to say to my mates that I was setting myself up for another session of ritual humiliation – ie watching a Newcastle United match. An unholy ground not quite full of fans, who had slowly shuffled, heads down in defeat, to watch yet another demoralising game of uninspired lacklustre so-called football. Days before this, I would suffer from pre-match jitters when I would wonder how many goals Newcastle United would lose by and how many points we would shed.
No disrespect to Allan Saint-Maximin but...
The Allan Saint-Maximin conundrum. While I in absolutely in no way mean any disrespect towards ASM… I do think that we are playing more direct football without him. His mazy runs sometimes break up Newcastle’s system of play and as much as I hate to say it, his innate selfishness would sometimes cost us a goal. The injury to Allan Saint-Maximin may have caused Eddie Howe a few seconds discomfort but he has capitalised on Joe Willock’s return to form.
Europe's green crisis should raise red flag for New Mexico
While Gov. Lujan Grisham is in Scotland touting the need to address climate change, President Biden, at the recent G-20, pleaded with other nations to increase their oil production to lower the price of gasoline. Maybe she should tell the President that New Mexico could produce the extra oil if he would quit strangling energy production with his brave new government regulations. While in Scotland, the Governor should take note at how Green Energy is destroying Europe.
