Marcus Armstrong, saying he was “sicker than a dog” with flu-like symptoms, unleashed a 138.585-mph lap in the NTT IndyCar drivers’ first look this year at Road America to become the top dog Friday in practice for Sunday’s XPel Grand Prix at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. He led Meyer Shank Racing’s 1-2 performance on the 14-turn, 4.014-mile permanent road course. Teammate Felix Rosenqvist was .0787 seconds off Armstrong’s pace, with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou third-fastest.

The NTT IndyCar Series has hit the halfway point in the 2026 season heading into this weekend’s XPel Grand Prix at Road America at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Four-time and reigning champion Alex Palou still is in command, with the points lead, four victories, a runner-up finish at Arlington, Texas, and a whopping 388 laps led. Surprisingly, though, a number of drivers have impressed in the first nine races.
