We've been locked in an extremely cold pattern for several weeks now, but there are finally signs that it will ease with a thaw on the way later this week. Before we get there, we'll need to get through a couple of wintry systems that could impact travel and commuting.The first has departed after dropping an inch or two of snow across the area. It's a very weak clipper system.

Crocuses are blooming, tulips are poking up and the birds are back from their winter vacation. Spring is here. But it wouldn’t be complete without a snow threat, and this one is real and big. Low pressure is developing over the Mid-Atlantic and will blow up into a legit, slow-moving nor’easter that will impact Maine for a few days. TIMING Precipitation will move in from southwest to northeast starting sometime between 3 and 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

This is not an April Fool’s joke. It’s real. I wouldn’t joke around about a threat of power outages, especially after the winter we’ve endured. An area of low pressure will move into Maine late Tuesday through Thursday and intensify over time. Heavy, wet snow is expected to fall, especially overnight Wednesday into Thursday where accumulations will be greatest. This will bring a threat of power outages to some parts of the state.
