Ocular surface symptoms and tear-film parameters in keratoconus: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Background: Ocular-surface abnormalities are increasingly recognized in keratoconus (KC), but the magnitude and consistency of these changes remain uncertain. We evaluated ocular-surface symptoms, tear-function parameters, and dry-eye-related categorical outcomes in patients with KC compared with non-KC controls. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were searched from inception through September 1, 2026.
Lipid profiles and treatment response across symptom-based subgroups in acute schizophrenia: a post-hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial
Abstract Clinical heterogeneity in schizophrenia complicates treatment optimization and contributes to substantial variability in antipsychotic response. Symptom-based stratification may help to identify more homogeneous patient groups and improve prediction of treatment outcomes. However, evidence from large longitudinal studies remain limited. Metabolic abnormalities are also highly prevalent in schizophrenia and may contribute to differential treatment response across clinical subgroups.
SARS-CoV-2 seeds IAPP aggregation and β-cell failure
Abstract The global diabetes incidence has surged post-COVID-19, yet how SARS-CoV-2 drives long-term beta cell (β-cell) failure remains incompletely elucidated. We identified a mechanism whereby SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins directly hijack islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) to induce pathogenic amyloid deposition, disrupting insulin granule maturation, trafficking, and secretion in an age-susceptible islet microenvironment.

Hijacking the bone niche: mechanistic insights into bone metastasis in breast cancer
Abstract Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide, with metastasis being the leading cause of mortality among patients. Bone is the most frequent site of metastasis in breast cancer, accounting for approximately 70% of metastatic cases. Before bone metastasis, primary breast cancer cells secrete circulating factors (e.g., exosomal RNAs, metabolites, and cytokines) to precondition the bone microenvironment and establish a supportive pre-metastatic niche (PMN).

Understanding the degradation complexity of ultrahigh-energy lithium metal batteries - Nature Reviews Chemistry
Abstract The combination of Li-rich layered oxide cathodes and lithium metal anodes enables lithium metal batteries (LMBs) to achieve specific energies exceeding 600 Wh kg−1, which is a crucial threshold requiring the activation of anionic oxygen-redox of cathode. The specific energy is attained owing to oxygen-redox reactions at the cathode and reversible Li plating–stripping at the anode, but these processes also induce distinct failure mechanisms.

Widespread occurrence of cyhalofop‐resistant Leptochloa chinensis in eastern China was mainly propelled by target‐site mutations
Various mechanisms or factors may cause the wide infestation of herbicide-resistant weeds with different contributions, such as target-site resistance (TSR), non-target-site resistance (NTSR), hormesis, and dissemination of herbicide-resistant weeds. Here we tested this hypothesis in eastern China in Leptochloa chinensis, for which cyhalofop resistance is a major challenge to rice planting. Our results revealed that 30% of the total 242 populations held high (10 < RI 100) to cyhalofop.
Founders Can Increase Determinism of Community Assembly
1 Introduction The effect of founders refers to the potential influence of initially colonizing species on the composition, functionality, and stability of communities (Grime 1998). Notably, this concept differs from the founder effect in population genetics, which refers to the reduction in genetic variation that occurs when a new population is established by a small number of individuals from a larger population (Barton and Charlesworth 1984; Grant 2002).
