ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Antonia Royal-Whitemore, a local author and Rockford native, has founded a publishing company called Publack to increase the representation of Black stories in literature. Royal-Whitemore, who has published 14 books, was inspired to create the platform by historical figures and a desire to see more inclusiveness in storytelling.

$250K goal set to modernize historic Black veterans post in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A capital campaign has been launched this fall to raise funds for the renovation of the Jefferson-Horton American Legion Post 340, a historic site on Rockford’s Southside. The campaign, known as ‘Project Restore and Reimagine,’ aims to gather $250,000 to modernize the building, which has served as a community hub for 86 years. The post was originally established at the Booker Community Center in the 1930s and moved to its current location in the 1970s.
