Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is associated with in-hospital mortality in patients with cirrhosis and pneumonia: a multicenter retrospective study
Abstract Background: Patients with cirrhosis complicated by pneumonia face high in-hospital mortality, yet reliable prognostic tools remain limited. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a readily available inflammatory marker with established prognostic value across various diseases. However, multicenter evidence on the independent association of log10NLR with mortality in this specific population is lacking.

Herein, silicon and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (Si, N-CDs) with a high absolute quantum yield of 50.19% and excitation-independent emission were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using trans-aconitic acid and N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine as precursors.
Superconducting 2D cuprate with a single CuO 2 plane
Abstract Atomically thin van der Waals crystals epitomize ideal material systems in the two-dimensional (2D) limit. This reduction in dimensionality often leads to important consequences, best exemplified by the emergence of new physics in graphene and other 2D materials that can be readily tuned by gating1,2. Vast opportunities arise in extending this top-down approach to other material systems.

Single-nucleus multiomics reveals the disrupted regulatory programs in three brain regions of sporadic early-onset Alzheimer's disease
Abstract Sporadic early-onset Alzheimer's disease (sEOAD) represents a significant but less-studied subtype of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, we generated a single-nucleus multiome atlas derived from the postmortem prefrontal cortex, entorhinal cortex, and hippocampus of nine individuals with or without sEOAD. Comprehensive analyses were conducted to delineate cell type-specific transcriptomic changes and linked candidate cis-regulatory elements (cCREs) across brain regions.

Toward a consistent calculation of the lunar response to gravitational waves
The recent increasing interest in detecting gravitational waves (GWs) by lunar seismic measurement urges us to have a clear understanding of the response of the moon to passing GWs. In this paper, we clarify the relationship between two seemingly different response functions which have been derived previously using two different methods, one taking the field-theory approach and the other using the tidal force induced by GWs. We revisit their derivation and prove, by both analytical arguments...
Seeded growth of single-crystal black phosphorus nanoribbons - Nature Materials
Abstract Two-dimensional materials have emerged as an important research frontier for overcoming the challenges in nanoelectronics and for exploring new physics. Among them, black phosphorus, with a combination of a tunable bandgap and high mobility, is one of the most promising systems. In particular, black phosphorus nanoribbons show excellent electrostatic gate control, which can mitigate short-channel effects in nanoscale transistors.

Nonlinear transport and radio frequency rectification in BiTeBr at room temperature - Nature Communications
Abstract Materials showing second-order nonlinear transport under time reversal symmetry can be used for Radio Frequency (RF) rectification, but practical application demands room temperature operation and sensitivity to microwatts level RF signals in the ambient. In this study, we demonstrate that BiTeBr exhibits a giant nonlinear response which persists up to 350 K. Through scaling and symmetry analysis, we show that skew scattering is the dominant mechanism.
A portable all-in-one microfluidic device with real-time colorimetric LAMP for HPV16 and HPV18 DNA point-of-care testing
Cervical cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer mortality among women and remains a major challenge for public health. In 2020, an estimated 604,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide, and approximately 342,000 women died from the disease (Sung et al., 2021). Screening for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the most important preventative measures because almost all cervical cancers are attributable to HPV infection (Mao et al., 2023).

However, the actual maize field situation is complex, and the speed and accuracy of the existing algorithms are difficult to meet the needs of real-time detection.
Calculating the gravitational waves emitted from high-speed sources
Abstract The possibility of forming gravitational-wave sources with high center-of-mass (c.m.) velocities in the vicinity of supermassive black holes requires us to develop a method of deriving the waveform in the observer’s frame. Here we show that in the limit where the c.m. velocity is high but the relative velocities of the components of the source are small, we can solve the problem by directly integrating the relaxed Einstein field equation.

Moving gravitational wave sources at cosmological distances: Impact on the measurement of the Hubble constant
Abstract Standard sirens—gravitational wave (GW) sources with an electromagnetic (EM) counterpart—can be used to measure the Hubble constant directly which should help to ease the existing Hubble tension. However, if the source has a relative velocity to the expanding universe on top of its motion due to the Hubble flow, a relativistic redshift affects the redshift of the EM counterpart and the apparent distance of the GW source, and thus it needs to be corrected to obtain accurate measurements.
