H3K18 lactylation promotes VEGFR-3-dependent lymphatic hyperplasia and barrier disruption in metabolic syndrome
Abstract The epigenetic mechanisms by which nutrient overload reprograms lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) remain unclear. Here we show that metabolic stress drives LECs into a glycolytic state, producing lactate that fuels EP300-catalyzed histone H3K18 lactylation at the VEGFR-3 promoter, thereby enhancing chromatin accessibility and VEGFR-3 transcription.
Neutrophils and lipocalin-2 in triglyceride-glucose body mass index-related cardiometabolic risk among patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a multicenter study
Abstract Cardiometabolic risk is increased in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but early risk may remain unrecognized before overt metabolic abnormalities emerge. Whether neutrophil-associated inflammation can help identify this latent risk and its potential molecular link remains unclear.
Lake eutrophication increases unprotected organic carbon pools in sediments
Abstract Reactive iron oxide-bound organic carbon (Fe–OC) is a key pathway for long-term carbon burial, but its effectiveness under increasingly widespread eutrophication remains uncertain. Here we show that Fe–OC accounts for 16% of total organic carbon and buries at ~14 Mt C yr−1 in lakes globally, equivalent to ~27% of the marine Fe–OC sink despite lakes covering only ~1.25% of marine area.
Synergistic yet divergent climate effects of wind and solar energy in China toward carbon neutrality
Abstract Wind and solar energy help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and contribute to changes in global atmospheric circulations by altering the underlying surface albedo. However, the displacement of fossil fuel combustion not only reduces CO2 but also decreases scattering aerosols and their precursor emissions, yielding competing climate effects from negative radiative forcing (RF, cooling) due to avoided CO2 emissions and positive RF (warming) from aerosol demasking.
Seasonal Difference of Gut Microbiota at a Stopover Site in Five Passerines of Different Migratory Behavior
1 Introduction The gut microbiota is considered the “invisible organ” in vertebrates (Yan et al. 2022) for its crucial role in shaping host metabolic processes (Bäckhed et al. 2005; Reikvam et al. 2011; McFall-Ngai et al. 2013) and the immune system (Macpherson and Harris 2004; Wu and Wu 2012). Variations in gut microbiota composition can lead to shifts in body condition, behavior, and other traits (Moreno et al. 2003; Jumpertz et al. 2011; van Dongen et al.

Blood–brain barrier dysfunction and peripheral immune activation in Alzheimer’s disease: an inflammation-centered review
Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is traditionally defined by amyloid-β deposition, tau pathology, synaptic failure, and progressive cognitive decline. However, growing evidence indicates that neurovascular dysfunction and systemic immune activation are not merely secondary consequences but active contributors to disease progression. The blood–brain barrier (BBB), as a dynamic immunovascular interface, regulates the communication between the central nervous system and the peripheral immune system.

Perfluoroalkyl substance release in permafrost surface waters is projected to increase under global warming
Abstract As the largest component of the global cryosphere, permafrost regions serve as major reservoirs for perfluoroalkyl substances. Climate change is altering cryospheric hydrological processes and pollutant transport, yet their impacts on the distribution of perfluoroalkyl substances in surface waters remain poorly understood.
Single-cell profiling decodes patagium development in gliding mammal
Abstract The gliding patagium represents a key adaptation for mammalian flight, but its cellular development remains unexplored. Using single-nucleus RNA sequencing of embryonic flying squirrel patagium and dorsal skin, we construct a single-cell atlas of patagium development and identify two distinct fibroblast subpopulations (Fp2 and Fr) highly enriched in the patagium.
