An automated operon refactoring workflow for heterologous expression of non-ribosomal peptide biosynthetic gene clusters
Abstract Microbial genomes encode numerous biosynthetic gene clusters, yet most remain experimentally uncharacterized, particularly large non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) clusters that resist conventional cloning. Existing refactoring approaches are labor-intensive, depend on de novo DNA synthesis and are difficult to scale.
User experience of smart wardrobe lighting systems: identifying pain points and prioritizing core elements
Abstract Smart wardrobe lighting has been predominantly studied from a technical perspective, with limited understanding of user experience. This mixed-methods study investigates user experience in this context, combining interviews and a questionnaire survey targeting young adults as the core early-adopter demographic.
Strong tropical cyclones have a more gradual increase trend through interaction with ocean subsurface
Abstract Understanding changes in global tropical cyclone (TC) intensity and their long-term trends is critical for enhancing societal resilience. Given their disproportionate impacts, shifts in strong TCs, which are defined here as Category 4 and above, are of particular concern.

Photo-activated digital resistive switching in a cryogenic photomemory
|
Abstract Resistive switching is the basis of many emerging memory technologies. However, its operation at cryogenic temperatures remains scarce, and it generally lacks compatibility with optical control and in-situ electrical programmability. Here, we report the discovery of a photo-activated digital resistive switching effect in a cryogenic photomemory based on α-In2Se3.

Wavelength-encoded neuromorphic inference enabled by microcavity MoS 2 photodetector arrays

Abstract Biological vision systems tightly couple spectral sensing with temporal integration to extract task-relevant information with minimal data movement. In contrast, conventional optoelectronic vision hardware typically separates photodetection from electronic computation, incurring substantial latency and energy costs. Optical neural networks can alleviate this bottleneck, but many implementations are difficult to scale.

Biomimetic ferroelectric-semiconductor transistor enables neuronal multisensory integration
Abstract Human brain seamlessly integrates multisensory stimuli to synthesize complementary information for enhanced perceptions, depending on neural principles of superadditivity, inverse effectiveness, and temporal congruency. Replicating multisensory integration in artificial intelligences has remained challenging due to the inefficiency of algorithmic fusions and the absence of hardware-native mechanisms.
A bit-parallel molybdenum disulfide computer built through multi-level co-optimization
Abstract The sustainable development of artificial intelligence requires energy-efficient computing technology. Two-dimensional semiconductor digital electronics could potentially provide such capabilities, and promising single devices and small circuits have been developed. However, very large-scale integration remains challenging due to the inability to control atomic-scale defects and mesoscopic device variations, as well as the lack of macroscopic variation-aware design methodology.

Multi-ancestry genome-wide association study of severe pregnancy nausea and vomiting
|
Abstract Most pregnancies are affected by nausea and vomiting, but the most severe form—hyperemesis gravidarum—can be life threatening. Here we performed a multi-ancestry genome-wide association study of hyperemesis gravidarum in 10,974 cases and 461,461 controls across European, Asian, African and Latino ancestries. We identified ten associations: four identified previously (GDF15, IGFBP7, PGR and GFRAL) and six additional loci (SLITRK1, SYN3, IGSF11, FSHB, TCF7L2 and CDH9).

Metallic charge transport in conjugated molecular bilayers - Nature Electronics
|
Abstract Metallic charge transport of field-induced carriers can be observed in single-crystal silicon over a wide temperature range. Such behaviour is rare in undoped organic semiconductors but is beneficial for engineering devices with advanced performance. Here we report metallic charge transport in conjugated molecular bilayers down to 8 K with an electrical conductivity of up to 245 S cm−1 and a Hall mobility larger than 100 cm2 V−1 s−1 at 20 K.

Large-area non-stoichiometric phase transition in transition metal chalcogenide films - Nature Materials
Abstract Phase engineering is of vital importance for determining the material functionalities and expanding the material library. However, the controllable and scalable phase transition of transition metal chalcogenides remains extremely challenging. The microscopic observation of the phase evolution pathway is an essential prerequisite for understanding the phase transition mechanism.

Improved multiancestry fine-mapping identifies cis-regulatory variants underlying molecular traits and disease risk - Nature Genetics
Abstract Multiancestry statistical fine-mapping of cis-molecular quantitative trait loci (cis-molQTL) aims to improve the precision of distinguishing causal cis-molQTLs from tagging variants. Here we present the sum of shared single effects (SuShiE) model, which leverages linkage disequilibrium heterogeneity to improve fine-mapping precision, infer cross-ancestry effect size correlations and estimate ancestry-specific expression prediction weights.
Reversible luminescence of Bi3+ ions by X-ray induced crystal field regulation
Reversible luminescence of Bi3+ ions by X-ray induced crystal field regulation† Variations in the crystal field of optical crystal materials directly influence the energy level transitions and non-radiative relaxation processes of doped ions, resulting in changes to luminescence properties. However, current crystal field regulation strategies, such as matrix component regulation and ion doping, fail to achieve reversible control.

Integration of high-κ native oxides of gallium for two-dimensional transistors - Nature Electronics
Abstract The deposition of a metal oxide layer with good dielectric properties is a critical step in fabricating the gate dielectric of transistors based on two-dimensional semiconductors. However, current techniques for depositing ultrathin metal oxide layers on two-dimensional semiconductors suffer from quality issues that can compromise transistor performance.
Ultralow-pressure-driven polarization switching in ferroelectric membranes - Nature Communications
Abstract Van der Waals integration of freestanding perovskite-oxide membranes with two-dimensional semiconductors has emerged as a promising strategy for developing high-performance electronics, such as field-effect transistors. In these innovative field-effect transistors, the oxide membranes have primarily functioned as dielectric layers, yet their great potential for structural tunability remains largely untapped.

Room-temperature ferroelectric, piezoelectric and resistive switching behaviors of single-element Te nanowires - Nature Communications
Abstract Ferroelectrics are essential in memory devices for multi-bit storage and high-density integration. Ferroelectricity mainly exists in compounds but rare in single-element materials due to their lack of spontaneous polarization in the latter. However, we report a room-temperature ferroelectricity in quasi-one-dimensional Te nanowires. Piezoelectric characteristics, ferroelectric loops and domain reversals are clearly observed.

Twas_SIM, a Python-Based Tool for Simulation and Power Analysis of Transcriptome-Wide Association Analysis
Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified numerous genetic variants associated with complex disease risk; however, most of these associations are non-coding, complicating identifying their proximal target gene. Transcriptome-wide association studies (TWASs) have been proposed to mitigate this gap by integrating expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) data with GWAS data.
