Pangenome and resequencing analyses reveal flowering evolution and genetic control in Cerasus
|
Abstract Prunus subgenus Cerasus contains numerous species with ornamental, edible, and medicinal value. However, limited genomic resources have constrained systematic analyses of structural variation and the genetic basis of key phenological traits in this group. Here, we assemble eight genomes from diverse Cerasus species. Together with 13 published genomes, we construct a pangenome of 21 accessions representing 17 species. Phenological observations reveal substantial variation in flowering time.

New advances in efficacy prediction of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in pediatrics: a narrative review
1 Introduction Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) has been employed for treating pediatric urinary stones for nearly four decades (1). While ESWL was quickly adopted as a non-invasive modality in adults, its application in children has been approached with greater caution due to significant anatomical and physiological differences in the pediatric urinary system (2, 3). Consequently, the direct application of adult treatment protocols to children may be inappropriate (4).

Ginger genome reveals the SMPED1 gene causing sex-phase synchrony and outcrossing in a flowering plant - Nature Plants
Abstract In many flowering plants, male and female reproductive organs mature at different times to avoid self-pollination, a phenomenon termed dichogamy. Most dichogamous species are either protandrous or protogynous, making this strategy difficult to study genetically. However, in the ginger Alpinia mutica, protandrous and protogynous floral morphs co-occur within populations, and the synchronized rhythmic movement of styles and dehiscence of stamens promotes cross-pollination between morphs.

Evolution of a SHOOTMERISTEMLESS transcription factor binding site promotes fruit shape determination - Nature Plants
Abstract In animals and plants, organ shape is primarily determined during primordium development by carefully coordinated growth and cell division1,2,3. Rare examples of post-primordial change in morphology (reshaping) exist that offer tractable systems for the study of mechanisms required for organ shape determination and diversification. One such example is morphogenesis in Capsella fruits whose heart-shaped appearance emerges by reshaping of the ovate spheroid gynoecium upon fertilization4.
