Plant-based meat alternatives can support reductions in agricultural land expansion and greenhouse gas emissions but entail micronutrient trade-offs
Abstract Plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs), designed to mimic the sensory properties of meat, may help reduce animal-sourced protein consumption and support a shift towards plant-based diets. Here we integrated PBMAs into a land-use model to assess their effects on nutrition, greenhouse gas emissions and food system sustainability.

Real-time FPGA prototyping of joint blind equalization with ZF-NL-RSSE for data center interconnects
To maximize power efficiency and system simplicity, blind equalization is widely utilized in high-speed intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) systems, enabling the cost-efficient deployment in data center interconnects (DCI). Meanwhile, recognized as the theoretically optimal equalizer, maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) is recommended for broad implementation, particularly in high-speed IM/DD systems.
Residual emissions may perpetuate community-scale inequalities in US air pollution
Abstract Achieving net-zero targets reduces greenhouse gas emissions and their co-pollutants, thereby improving air quality; however, the magnitude and distribution of these improvements depend on the amount and location of residual emissions offset by carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Here we integrate a series of models and datasets to analyse community-scale particulate matter (PM2.5) impacts of different net-zero scenarios across the contiguous USA.
Resetting of epigenetic cold memory through somatic embryogenesis in plant regeneration
Abstract Many plant species can propagate asexually or be regenerated in vitro; but asexual offspring are more likely to maintain environmentally induced epigenetic marks, for instance, inheritance of the prolonged cold-induced ‘vernalized state’ in overwintering plants through asexual reproduction. Here we demonstrate that ‘vernalized state’ is reprogrammed during Arabidopsis asexual propagation through somatic embryogenesis.
Plasma trimethylamine N-oxide and arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of case–control studies
|
Abstract Introduction: Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a gut microbiota-derived metabolite, has been implicated in atherosclerosis. However, the association between plasma TMAO levels and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk remains inconsistent across studies. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science for case-control (including nested) studies reporting odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for TMAO and ASCVD.

Warming-driven shifts in global building energy use reshape climate mitigation planning
|
Abstract Global warming is reshaping energy demand in buildings, one of the largest sectors for energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Yet widely used mitigation scenarios, such as those in the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways and Representative Concentration Pathways (SSP-RCP) framework, often assume fixed historical climate baselines when projecting building energy use.

Promising climate progress from net-zero ambitions to the Paris Agreement goal
|
Abstract Climate targets require strong commitments from countries to be achieved. Using a multi-model analysis, we show that current net-zero pledges bring the world closer to a well-below 2 °C pathway, but an emission gap remains. Increasing ambition will be crucial: expanding the global coverage of net-zero pledges and speeding up action increases consistency with the Paris Agreement (1.5–2.0 °C range in model mean).

Thirty-six solutions to stabilize Earth’s climate
About two decades ago, an idea was proposed to visualize the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission that must be mitigated over the next 50 years to plateau its atmospheric abundance (1). Put forward was a stabilization triangle divided into seven equal wedges, each representing the amount of carbon emissions that can be reduced by existing technologies.
Alterations in static and dynamic topological properties of brain functional network after chronic high altitude exposure: a panel study
Abstract Background: Long-term exposure to a high-altitude (HA) hypoxic environment induces cognitive impairments, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Notably, the specific topological features of brain networks in this context have not been thoroughly explored. This study investigated graph-based topological characteristics of brain networks from static and dynamic perspectives, and examined how these alterations contribute to the chronic HA-induced cognitive changes.

Scaling carbon removal without delaying emission reductions - Nature Reviews Clean Technology
Depending on policy design, carbon dioxide removal could either perpetuate fossil fuel consumption and slow emission reductions or, if paired with rapid emission reductions, accelerate net-zero attainment and minimize overshoot periods. Policies that simultaneously and separately mandate emission reductions and near-term carbon dioxide removals could help to prevent mitigation deterrence, while supporting the upscaling of carbon dioxide removal.

Heterogeneous pressure on croplands from land-based strategies to meet the 1.5 °C target - Nature Climate Change
Abstract Achieving the 1.5 °C target outlined in the Paris Agreement necessitates coordinated global efforts, particularly in the form of ambitious climate pledges. While current discussions primarily focus on energy and emissions pathways, the fine-scale, location-specific consequences for agriculture, land systems and sustainability remain uncertain. Here we evaluate global land-system responses at 5-km2 resolution in pursuit of the 1.5 °C target through recent country-specific climate pledges.
