NEWPORT, R.I. (WJAR) — When visitors look across Newport Harbor today, they see sailboats and a bustling waterfront. But in the summer of 1780, those same waters were filled with an armada that would help change the course of American history. This July marks another opportunity to celebrate the arrival of approximately 6,000 French troops who landed in Newport under the command of French General Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau.
