Aldi’s Brand Battles Add Up As Customer Base Goes From Strength To Strength - Evening Standard
A long-running spat between Aldi and Marks & Spencer over light-up gin bottles is just the latest in a line of court cases the increasingly popular German discounter has faced with its brand rivals. Aldi’s loss of its appeal against a High Court ruling which found it had copied the design of Marks & Spencer’s light-up Christmas gin bottles comes just weeks after the High Court dismissed a trademark infringement claim against it by Thatchers Cider.
Positioning: The Art of Making Your Brand Stand Out
Chapter 4 Positioning Author Al Ries, along with Jack Trout, is the co-author of the book “Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind,” which was first released in 1981. Al Ries has written several other books on marketing and branding, including “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing,” “Marketing Warfare,” “The Origin of Brands,” and “The Fall of Advertising and the Rise of PR.” Among these books, “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing” is considered one of the best in terms of editions and popularity.

In the 1970s, Positioning pushed forward the perceptive notion that by framing your product in certain ways, you “positioned” your product in people’s minds versus its competitors .

Contagious
Why do certain products and ideas go viral? Dynamic young Wharton professor Jonah Berger draws on his research to explain the six steps that make products or ideas contagious. Why do some products get more word of mouth than others? Why does some online content go viral? Word of mouth makes products, ideas, and behaviors catch on.
