AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Now to a developing story! Officials responded to a bear on the campus of UMass Amherst late Wednesday morning. They have since relocated the bear to be released in a safe location. While on campus, a Western Mass News crew watched as authorities tranquilized the bear, and put it in the back of a truck to be released. We’re told that the bear will be unconscious for three hours.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- It was a celebration at Pope Francis Preparatory School on Tuesday, after the Cardinals won the Division 1 Hockey State Championship last weekend. The school held a rally in their gym right before the day ended to honor the team’s dominant season. This comes after the Cardinals edged out the Saint John’s Pioneers 2-1 in a double-overtime thriller. This is their second state title, as they also took home the trophy back in 2023.

WGGB reports it was a salute to service and sacrifice more than 80 years in the making. Merle Hillman lost his life at 25 during the attack on Dec. 7, 1941, when the USS California was struck by multiple torpedoes and bombs.
