Austin Wu * August 18, 2026 Recently I came across a drawing featured in the 1970 new years' issue of The Dong-A Ilbo ("East Asia Daily"), a Korean newspaper of record. It is a fantastical vision of what was then 30 years into the future - "An Imaginary Drawing of Korea in the Year 2000" - replete with skyscrapers, supersonic airplanes, offshore platforms, aquaculture, electric and telecommunication lines, and highways criss-crossing the peninsula.

Austin Wu * July 22, 2026 Recently, I came across an article in the Star Tribune titled, " Suburbia is getting a millenial [sic] makeover" - tracking, and attempting to explain to some extent, recent demographic trends where young people are increasingly trading the cities for the suburbs. Last year, I wrote about a notion of a suburban "donut" in between Minneapolis-Saint Paul and deriving its heft not only from urban flight, but also from patterns of decline in rural Minnesota.
