Dry and warm 4th of July weekend coming up Original
The 4th of July holiday weekend is upon us! It will start with dry and warm weather for Saturday with highs mostly in the upper 70s to low 80s. We will see a mix of clouds and sunshine for most of the day. Any chance for storms will stay well to the north and northwest. Sunday through Tuesday will be a bit more unsettled with more of a chance for scattered showers and storms. There will be several dry hours through those three days, but there will at times be higher chances for showers and storms.
Smoke and haze from Canadian wildfires will affect our air quality again this weekend
As we head into the holiday weekend, you may notice a little more haze in the air. Once again, the wildfires in Canada are generating a lot of smoke. Low- and mid-level winds have been favorable to concentrate the smoke across the Great Lakes down through Pennsylvania and into North Carolina. As a storm system moves across through the Great Lakes today and tonight. It will help to push some of that smoke into western New England. But that storm system is also generating showers and storms.

But that storm system is also generating showers and storms.
Scattered showers, thunderstorms expected Friday afternoon, evening Original
The same upper-level low will give us mostly cloudy to cloudy conditions over New England throughout the rest of Friday and part of the weekend. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be around Friday afternoon and evening. Generally, rainfall amounts will be less than a quarter of an inch, but within the thunderstorms, localized areas such as Worcester, Bristol County, western Plymouth County, and the Cape may receive higher totals approaching half an inch.

Hallowell Shows It's Pride With A Beautiful New Rainbow Crosswalk
I was delighted to see that this has happened in my favorite little city around. In a photo shared today on Facebook by George Lapointe, a rainbow crosswalk was painted on the pavement in downtown Hallowell this week in support of our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters. I have been an ally of this part of our community as far back as I can remember. It's likely that my early involvement with theater and dance was where my acceptance and respect for those who loved differently than I, had emerged.

Clapton's 1st Cumberland County Civic Center Show
42 years ago today, Eric Clapton played a sold-out show at the Civic Center. The Backless Tour came to Portland on May 26, 1979. This was the Guitar God's first time at the CCCC. Blues great McKinley Morganfield best known as Muddy Waters, was also on the bill. It was extra special for Maine Clapton fans as this trip to Northeast New England was a two-night stand. The first performance happened in my hometown at the Augusta Civic Center the evening before.

Blimp Time Hop: OZZY At CCCC After Death Of Randy Rhoads In 1982
39 years ago this weekend, Ozzy Osbourne played his second Civic Center show in Portland, Maine. This time around was without his very close friend and music partner, guitarist Randy Rhoads. It was the Diary of a Madman tour making a stop here on May 22,1982. Tragically, Randy was killed in a plane crash two months earlier in Florida. Guitarist Brad Gillis of Night Ranger stepped up for the understandably tough gig and joined Ozzy for the rest of the dates. He really was a champion.
