Endoscopy-Guided Treatment for Esophageal Foreign Bodies in Two Cases
1. Introduction Unlike other segments of the gastrointestinal tract, the esophagus has three physiological constrictions, lacks a serosal layer, and lies in proximity to major arterial vessels. Thus, some sharp and relatively large foreign bodies may be embedded in or perforate the esophageal wall, and even involve the adjacent arteries, thereby posing a risk of life-threatening bleeding [1]. Among adults, the most common foreign bodies swallowed accidentally in the esophagus are bones [2,3].
Reprogramming energy system for growth and bioproduction from CO₂ and methanol in Escherichia coli
Abstract Microbial CO₂ assimilation provides a strategy for sustainable biomanufacturing. However, CO₂ reduction requires substantial energy input, while native energy systems are tightly regulated and extensively consumed by endogenous metabolism, limiting assimilation efficiency. Here, we design and construct an orthogonal energy system in Escherichia coli, achieving an intracellular NUDH concentration exceeding 7.0 mM and an NUDH/NUD⁺ ratio above 55.

Estimated glucose disposal rate and cardiovascular risk in metabolically healthy adults: a nationwide prospective cohort study - Scientific Reports
Abstract To investigate the association of estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) with CVD, including stroke and heart disease, in metabolically healthy adults. All data were drawn from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, including participants aged ≥ 45 years who were free of metabolic syndrome (MetS) at baseline. Participants were enrolled in 2015 and followed up in 2018 and 2020.
Frontiers | Effectiveness of enhanced supervision, health education and environmental improvement interventions for injuries among children aged 6-17 in Shijiazhuang
Abstract Background: Injuries represent a significant public health concern, ranking as the primary cause of mortality among children in China. The 5E strategy is one of the most frequently employed strategies for injury prevention, yet the efficacy of a single prevention strategy is often eclipsed by that of a comprehensive intervention strategy.
The Acousto-Optic Properties of Paraelectric Potassium Tantalate Niobate Crystal
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! As a multifunctional ferroelectric crystal, potassium tantalate niobate (KTa1–xNbxO3, KTN) possesses various significant properties, exhibiting piezoelectric, electro-optic, and pyroelectric effects. Ferroelectric crystals are currently a key research direction for acousto-optic materials, making the acousto-optic effect of KTN crystals highly relevant. This paper modifies the Mach–Zehnder dual-beam interferometer system.
Volcanic eruptions disrupt ENSO teleconnections with land summer temperature - Nature Communications
Abstract The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a key ocean-atmospheric mode that affects global weather and climate through atmospheric teleconnections. It remains unclear how robust and stable ENSO teleconnection patterns are under external perturbations. Here, we use observations to demonstrate that volcanic eruptions disrupt ENSO teleconnections with land surface air temperature in boreal summer across the globe.

A platform efficiently produces aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic primary diamines from alcohols
A platform efficiently produces aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic primary diamines from alcohols Microbial production of a broad range of primary diamines remains challenging due to unknown biosynthetic pathways and the limited availability of promiscuous enzymes. In this study, we engineered a platform strain of Escherichia coli capable of efficiently producing aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic primary diamines from readily available alcohols.

Crucial role of subsurface ocean variability in tropical cyclone genesis - Nature Communications
Abstract The upper ocean provides thermal energy to tropical cyclones. However, the impacts of the subsurface ocean on tropical cyclogenesis have been largely overlooked. Here, we show that the subsurface variabilities associated with the variation in the 26 °C isothermal depth have pronounced impacts on tropical cyclogenesis over global oceans.

Unlocking the function promiscuity of old yellow enzyme to catalyze asymmetric Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction - Nature Communications
Abstract Exploring the promiscuity of native enzymes presents a promising strategy for expanding their synthetic applications, particularly for catalyzing challenging reactions in non-native contexts. In this study, we explore the promiscuous potential of old yellow enzymes (OYEs) to facilitate the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction (MBH reaction), leveraging substrate similarities between MBH reaction and reduction reaction.

Reprogramming Metabolic Flux in Escherichia Coli to Enhance Chondroitin Production
1 Introduction Microbial cell factories (MCFs) are widely used as a sustainable tool for the production of pharmaceutical, biofuel, and food, which provides a good alternative to realize fossil energy substitution and eliminate the dependence on animal and plant raw materials.[1] To improve the efficiency of MCFs, many metabolic engineering strategies have been developed, such as static regulation methods and dynamic control tools, to regulate metabolic flux for the biosynthesis of...
