Don’t Let Growth Muddle Your Company’s Strategy
One of the biggest challenges in strategy is overcoming what Michael Porter called the growth trap. Have Companies Become Too Specialized?
Starting in the late 1980s, a swept through corporate America, on the premise that conglomerates and highly diversified companies would perform better by focusing on their core businesses. Responding to Disruption: The Right Attitude is Key
When it comes to disruptions in our personal life (such as the death of a loved one, getting divorced or finding out that we are suffering from a disease), the attitude with which we approach such setbacks can play a key role in how successful we are in overcoming them. This, in turn, can be the difference between success and failure.
Creating the right kind of urgency to bring about change
Illustration by Peter Stark When disruption strikes a business, it is natural for its leaders to try to defend it by focusing on core business activities and improving current products and practices, even while creating a sense of urgency to bring about change. In a survey of 486 global CEOs PwC undertook in 2019, a significant majority said this was a good response to disruptive new entrants. On the face of it, this reaction appears to be a no-brainer.
