After nearly 24 hours of debate, a divisive bill that would codify legal abortion in state law advanced in the House, winning preliminary approval ahead of a final vote next week. The overnight affair at the state Capitol may have been one of the longest single-bill debates in state history. “We all have very strong opinions, very strong values when it comes to the topic of reproductive health care and reproductive rights,” Democratic state Rep.

Corey Jones is a candidate for Providence City Council Ward 3. On Christmas Eve, Providence saw another shooting. This comes after a shooting on Dec. 11. The people of Providence have witnessed 23 killings this year alone. Similar to national trends, homicides in Providence have steadily risen from a low of 10 in 2018, to 23 in 2021. Police have made nine arrests of the 23 killings so far this year. Instead of trying to “arrest our way out of it,” we need immediate action.

This Colorado Santa is coming to town over ham radio

On a recent December evening, a white-bearded man wearing a red button-down shirt and a big red hat with a fluffy, white pom-pom on the end sat at his desk in Longmont. Santa was at work, ready to listen to the wish lists of Christmas lovers. Soon, Natalie from Oklahoma City was patched in via ham radio. The 11-year-old said she wants a hair straightener for Christmas this year, and Santa promised to bring her a surprise on Christmas Eve.

The Denver skyline is seen on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021. The Mile High City has already shattered its 87-year-old record for the latest measurable snowfall set on Nov. 21, 1934, and it’s a little more than a week away from breaking an 1887 record of 235 consecutive days without snow. The scenario is playing out across much of the Rocky Mountains, as far north as Montana and in the broader Western United States, which is experiencing a megadrought that studies link to human-caused climate change.

Jones Today, the University of Denver professor lives in Cherry Hills Village, just south of Denver. But on Sept. 11, 2001, he was a lieutenant colonel in the Defense Department, working at the Pentagon when hijackers flew a plane into the building. The attack killed 184 people, including the passengers on board.

Del Toro Jr. managed air support for special forces and other missions, and he was severely burned and wounded when an improvised explosive device hit his Humvee. After closing the books on its first year of legalized sports betting, Colorado collected more than $6.6 million in tax revenue. The programs set to receive that money will start to do so this fall. Voters passed Proposition DD by a slim margin in 2019. But by the time legal betting launched in May of last year, the state didn’t know what to expect because of the pandemic, Colorado’s director of gaming Dan Hartman said.

It’ll Now Cost $4 To Get Into 36 Colorado State Parks Without A Vehicle

More state parks will require visitors without a vehicle to pay a fee for entry, Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced Wednesday. Individual hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders must now pay $4 to enter 36 state parks. That includes the Golden Gate Canyon, Roxborough, Staunton and Saint Vrain state parks. "Just because you're biking or hiking in doesn't mean you're not using the facilities or not having an impact on that park,” CPW spokesman Travis Duncan said.

As a legal battle between the state and a Christian group continues, public health officials have now asked a judge to halt a conference taking place this week in Woodland Park. Andrew Wommack Ministries planned to host an in-person ministers' conference expected to draw hundreds of attendees. The group has tried several times since early last week to get exemptions from statewide health orders that limit crowd sizes during the pandemic. Those efforts have all been denied.

Glenwood Springs Fire DepartmentFirefighters face off against the Grizzly Creek fire in Glenwood Canyon. As the Grizzly Creek Fire burns in western Colorado, officials expect I-70 to stay closed through Monday night in Glenwood Canyon. The blaze had grown to 1,300 acres as of 5:36 p.m., according to the Inciwebs report. The Glenwood Springs Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire near mile marker 120 on Monday afternoon.

Here Are Colorado’s 3 State-Run Sites That Offer Coronavirus Tests For Free

Gov. Jared Polis announced two more free COVID-19 testing sites in metro Denver on Monday, bringing the total of state-run sites to three. The new community sites are at Water World in Adams County and at Aurora Sports Park. Gross Reservoir helps Denver Water serve 1.5 million Front Range customers. The utility began the permitting process for the expansion 17 years ago. Federal officials have given the go-ahead to expand Gross Reservoir in Boulder County. That means Denver Water has overcome a huge hurdle in its effort to increase storage capacity. Gross Reservoir provides water to 1.5 million Front Range customers. “Expanding Gross Reservoir is a critical project to ensure a secure water supply for nearly a quarter of the state’s population,” Denver Water CEO Jim Lochhead said in a statement.

Colorado Banked $96,000 In The 1st Month Of Sports Betting

Sports betting's May debut in Colorado has already earned the state $96,537 in taxes. The odds weren’t really in favor of a big payout for Colorado, given the absence of most professional sports and the closure of casinos due to the coronavirus. If the first month is any indication, state officials see plenty of potentials. “It’s being well-received in the state, and it’s got a positive outlook,” said Dan Hartman, the state director of gaming.

Telluride Film Festival 2020 Canceled Due To COVID Concerns

This year’s Telluride Film Festival has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 47th annual event was originally scheduled to start September 3 and run through the Labor Day weekend. “After months of intense due diligence around physically holding an event, we’ve come to the heartbreaking but unanimous conclusion,” organizers said in a statement. “Until the past week or so, we had a very good plan to put on the show safely.

Gov. Polis Says Colorado Is Watching COVID-19 Spikes In Arizona And Utah

Colorado is closely watching some nearby states, as the number of COVID-19 cases in Utah and hospitalizations in Arizona continues to jump. Those spikes are alarming, Gov. Jared Polis said during a press briefing Thursday. “A rising cause for concern,” he said. “We've seen no evidence yet of that leading to increased transmission on our side of the border, but we watch that and we worry." Colorado has confirmed 28,647 cases of COVID-19, according to the state’s latest numbers.
