How is social media changing news?
It's a great way to share news but it can also play a key role in spreading misinformation. I hope that changes in the near future.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means a lot of things but the top three qualities to me are persistence, always seeking the truth and caring about those you cover.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook. With how long it has been in use, it connects people across multiple generations which is helpful when sharing the news.
Why did you become a journalist?
People deserve to know the truth and quality local journalism. I want to give them that.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Know what you're getting into and your limits – burning yourself out does no good.
What's your favorite drink?
Water from the ice machine downstairs. It's crispy.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Marshall Project – I love their in-depth reporting.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
A lot of people don't realize how accessible the courts are for the public.
