RYE, Colo. (KKTV) - For nearly three weeks, Daniel Bishop could only watch as the Aspen Acres Fire threatened the place his family has spent decades building. Recovering from serious injuries at a rehabilitation facility, the caretaker of Bishop Castle was unable to return home or help protect the landmark as flames came within about 200 yards of the historic attraction in Rye. “I was separated through an injury from being hands-on with the catastrophe going on in my life,” Bishop told 11 News.

(KKTV) - More than 1,300 animals displaced by the Aspen Acres Fire are beginning their journey home after spending more than two weeks at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, where a small team worked around the clock to care for livestock owners’ animals during the evacuation. The fairgrounds became a temporary shelter for horses, cattle, poultry, goats, sheep and other livestock after evacuation orders were issued on June 30.
