Organising general practice for care homes: a multi-method study
Abstract Background: General practice provides first-line National Health Service care for around 400,000 care home residents. Good primary care can enhance residents’ health and well-being and optimise use of hospital services. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the relationships between organisation of general practice and the perspectives and experiences of residents, general practice and care home staff, outcomes and costs.
Loss of epigenetic information as a cause of mammalian aging
Main text (Cell 186, 305–326.e1–e14; January 19, 2023) Our paper used a system called “ICE” (inducible changes to the epigenome) to study whether a loss of epigenetic information leads to aging and whether the expression of a subset of Yamanka factors can reverse these age-associated changes, as tests of the Information Theory of Aging.

The estate manager strikes back - newcomer injunctions…
The scenario You're an estate manager. You manage a number of different types of property including retail parks and some high profile central London offices. The occupier of your main office building is a large financial institution which has provided finance to a major oil company. You've had a number of issues with trespassers over the years.

Human trials exploring anti-aging medicines
Summary Here, we summarize the current knowledge on eight promising drugs and natural compounds that have been tested in the clinic: metformin, NAD+ precursors, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, TORC1 inhibitors, spermidine, senolytics, probiotics, and anti-inflammatories. Multiple clinical trials have commenced to evaluate the efficacy of such agents against age-associated diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Restricting mealtime ameliorates neurodegeneration
Cite Display options Display options Format AbstractPubMedPMID Abstract Alzheimer's disease is often accompanied by disruptions in circadian rhythms, which may exacerbate the disease's progression. In this issue, Whittaker and colleagues demonstrate that the modulation of circadian rhythms by time-restricted feeding can alter the disease trajectory in Alzheimer's mouse models. Building Safety Act 2022 - twelve things to check when buying a mixed use building
The scenario You're an investor looking to buy a mixed use property. The property is a large high street block in London, built in the early 2000's. The block has retail on the ground floor, then two floors of offices and finally two small flats at the top. The flats have been sold off on 999 year leases and don't generate any income, so you're not really interested in them. But you've heard that, because of the flats, you might have obligations under the Building Safety Act ("BSA").

Service charges - pay now, argue later?
How conclusive is a service charge certificate? The scenario You own a large property portfolio with a mixture of retail and office units. A couple of your retail properties are looking a bit tired and could use some work. With the leases for those properties set to end in the next few years, you'd like to get on with the works now.

Human age reversal: Fact or fiction?
1.5 Outstanding questions and limitations in the field In this work, we refer to the measurement made by an aging clock as BA given that the disparity between BA and CA significantly correlates with age-related health outcomes such as mortality (Perna et al., 2016) and disease burden (Hillary et al., 2020). Whether or not the metric provided by an aging clock truly represents BA is, however, debatable.

NAD + Repletion Rescues Female Fertility during Reproductive Aging
|
Introduction Increasing maternal age and subsequent infertility have rapidly become a significant challenge to family planning, as a result of the irreversible decline in female fertility in mammals. The rate-limiting factor for successful pregnancy is oocyte quality, which significantly declines from late in the third decade of life in humans (De Vos et al., 2014; Sauer, 2015).

Why We Need to Treat Aging Like a Disease
Nir Barzilai & David A. Sinclair, Wired UK January 1, 2019 AP Photo/Charles Krupa, File In June 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the 11th edition of its International Classification of Diseases. It contained an important addition: “Code MG2A: Old age.” This tiny line of text could be one of the most important documents in human history, potentially leading to medicines designed to tackle the world's most common ailment – ageing itself – and one that causes almost all others.
Why We Get Frail And How To Reverse It
Aging is characterized by a gradual loss of cellular homeostasis and tissue function. This is a major cause of frailty in the elderly, which reduces their quality of life and increases the susceptibility to morbidity and mortality. Even though exercise is one of the most potent ways to reduce frailty, our capacity to exercise and achieve benefits from it declines with age.

Therapeutic Potential of NAD-Boosting Molecules: The In Vivo Evidence
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), the cell’s hydrogen carrier for redox enzymes, is well known for its role in redox reactions. More recently, it has emerged as a signaling molecule. By modulating NAD+-sensing enzymes, NAD+ controls hundreds of key processes from energy metabolism to cell survival, rising and falling depending on food intake, exercise, and the time of day. NAD+ levels steadily decline with age, resulting in altered metabolism and increased disease susceptibility.

MSN2 and MSN4 Link Calorie Restriction and TOR to Sirtuin-Mediated Lifespan Extension in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Loading metrics Open Access Peer-reviewed Research Article Abstract Calorie restriction (CR) robustly extends the lifespan of numerous species. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, CR has been proposed to extend lifespan by boosting the activity of sirtuin deacetylases, thereby suppressing the formation of toxic repetitive ribosomal DNA (rDNA) circles.
Redistribution of Silencing Proteins from Telomeres to the Nucleolus Is Associated with Extension of Life Span in S. cerevisiae
Introduction Aging is characterized by an exponential increase in the rate of mortality over time. This fundamental property of aging is manifest in organisms as complex as humans (Gompertz 1825) and as simple as the single-celled yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Pohley 1987). Yeast aging is measured by determining the number of daughter cells that a mother cell can produce before dying (Mortimer and Johnston 1959).
