On-demand steering of hyperbolic chiral polaritons
Abstract Controlling light polarization and propagation in sub-wavelength architectures is foundational to nanophotonic technologies. A frontier direction is leveraging strong optical spin-orbit interactions to realize polarization-selective light steering. Hyperbolic plasmon polaritons offer a compelling platform as they offer large optical spin-orbit coupling from strong confinement and dielectric anisotropy, as well as ray-like propagation.

Revealing bond level origin of stability in disordered solids from marginal stability to ultrastability
Abstract Disordered solids can be prepared with a vast spectrum of stabilities, ranging from marginally stable to ultra-stable. While understanding the structural origin of stability is crucial for predicting mechanical failure, as well as for revealing the nature and manipulating the properties of disordered solids, structural disorder poses a significant obstacle.
Observation of coherent ferron emission and propagation
Abstract Ordered phases give rise to collective modes and quasiparticles, such as spin waves and magnons emerging from magnetic order. Extending this paradigm to ferroelectrics suggests the existence of polarization waves and their fundamental quanta, ferrons. A coherent ferron—that is, a polarization wave—modulates the magnitude of the electric polarization and is thus an amplitude (Higgs) mode of the ferroelectric order.
Low-loss phase-change material-based programmable mode converter for photonic computing
Abstract Phase-change materials (PCMs)-based integrated photonic memory offers a viable pathway for the development of a neuromorphic computing chip. The sizable optical contrast in the telecom band between amorphous and crystalline phases of PCM, in particular, Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST), is used for multilevel programming. However, the high extinction coefficient k of crystalline GST leads to high optical loss, posing a serious challenge for scaling up the device array for practical use.
Status and influencing factors of weight loss behavior among college students: a cross-sectional study
Abstract Background: College students are the main force of the country’s future. The physical health of college students is directly related to the country’s future development and progress. Overweight and obesity not only affect the appearance of college students, but also increase the risk of illness, and affect their study, life and career development.

Ideal non-crystals as a distinct form of ordered states without symmetry breaking - Nature Materials
Abstract Order and disorder are central concepts in condensed-matter physics. Crystals break translational and rotational symmetries, whereas quasicrystals challenge this paradigm with forbidden rotational symmetries and aperiodicity. Here we report a distinct ordered state—ideal non-crystals—characterized by optimal steric order without symmetry breaking.

Standing together in solidarity: Three years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Today is a sad day. Yet another year has passed by since Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. This brutal and unprovoked aggression threatens the rules-based international order, the UN Charter and the very basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The implications of a nuclear power carrying out wars of conquest affect the entire global community. If we let one country invade another sovereign country and annex its territory, what example does that set? Who could be next?

Low-frequency vibrational density of states of ordinary and ultra-stable glasses - Nature Communications
Abstract A remarkable feature of disordered solids distinct from crystals is the violation of the Debye scaling law of the low-frequency vibrational density of states. Because the low-frequency vibration is responsible for many properties of solids, it is crucial to elucidate it for disordered solids. Numerous recent studies have suggested power-law scalings of the low-frequency vibrational density of states, but the scaling exponent is currently under intensive debate.

16S rRNA gene sequencing and machine learning reveal correlation between drug abuse and human host gut microbiota
1 INTRODUCTION Substance use disorder remains a significant public health concern worldwide. According to The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), an estimated 284 million people aged 15 to 64 abused drugs worldwide in 2020, representing a 26% increase from 2010. About 38.6 million of them suffered from substance use disorders.1 The number of drug abusers is expected to rise to about 300 million by 2030.

Novel Low-Cost Anorthite Porous Ceramic-Based Binary Chlorate High-Temperature Thermal Energy Storage Material: Preparation and Characterization
This work creatively proposed novel, low-cost, anorthite porous ceramic (APC)-based eutectic NaCl-KCl salt composite phase-change materials (C-PCMs) by using industrial solid waste blast furnace slag (BFS) and fly ash (FA) as the main materials. The spontaneous infiltration method was applied in this study, and the prepared composites have a promising prospect in the field of high-temperature heat storage because of good thermal stability, high thermal conductivity, and low cost.

Crystal Field Tuning of Photoluminescence in Lanthanide Ions-Embedded Two-dimensional Materials
Lanthanide (Ln) group elements have been attracting considerable attention owing to the distinct optical properties. The crystal field surroundings of Ln ions in the host materials can determine their energy level splitting, which is of vital importance to tailor their optical properties. Here, we, for the first time, utilized 2D MoS2 single crystal as the host material to embed Eu3+ and achieved their energy level splitting for tuning its photoluminescence (PL).
Heparan Sulfate Regulates the Structure and Function of Osteoprotegerin in Osteoclastogenesis
Osteoprotegerin (OPG), a decoy receptor secreted by osteoblasts, is a major negative regulator of bone resorption. It functions by neutralizing the receptor activator of nuclear factor ?B ligand (RANKL), which plays a central role in promoting osteoclastogenesis. OPG is known to be a high-affinity heparan sulfate (HS)-binding protein. Presumably, HS could regulate the function of OPG and affect how it inhibits RANKL.
The Receptor for Advanced Glycation Endproducts Drives T Cell Survival and Inflammation in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
The ways in which environmental factors participate in the progression of autoimmune diseases are not known. After initiation, it takes years before hyperglycemia develops in patients at risk for type 1 diabetes (T1D). The receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) is a scavenger receptor of the Ig family that binds damage-associated molecular patterns and advanced glycated endproducts and can trigger cell activation.
