From simulation to pedagogy: multi-model and randomized evaluation of structured AI standardized patients
Abstract Standardized patients (SPs) are central to clinical communication training but remain constrained by cost, scalability, and reliance on trained actors. We present AI standardized patients (AI-SPs), large language model–driven patient simulators built on a three-layer information architecture that adaptively modulates information disclosure according to learner skill.
A universal 6iL/E4 culture system for deriving and maintaining embryonic stem cells across mammalian species
|
Abstract The derivation of authentic embryonic stem cells (ESCs) across mammalian species remains a major challenge. Here, we report the development of a defined, serum-free culture system, termed 6iL/E4, that enables the derivation and long-term self-renewal of ESCs across diverse mammalian species. Through systematic dissection of signaling pathways, we identified conserved regulatory modules involving GSK3α, WNT, STAT3, PDGFR, and MEK/ERK signaling.

Single-nucleotide RNA m 6 A mapping in bovine preimplantation development reveals site-specific regulation of RPL12 at zygotic genome activation
Keywords m6A RPL12 ZGA preimplantation development SAC-seq bovine Research topic(s) CP: Developmental biology CP: Genomics Introduction During preimplantation development, the mammalian embryo undergoes a dramatic maternal-to-zygotic transition (MZT) after fertilization, followed by precise cell fate specification at the blastocyst stage.
A Universal 6iL/E4 Culture System for Deriving and Maintaining Embryonic Stem Cells Across Mammalian Species
Abstract The derivation of authentic embryonic stem cells (ESCs) from diverse mammalian species offers valuable opportunities for advancing regenerative medicine, studying developmental biology, and enabling species conservation. Here, we report the development of a robust, serum-free culture system, termed 6iL/E4 that enables the derivation and long-term self-renewal of ESCs from multiple mammalian species, including mouse, rat, bovine, rabbit, and human.
Spatiotemporal dynamics and selectivity of mRNA translation during mouse pre-implantation development
Abstract Translational regulation is pivotal during preimplantation development. However, how mRNAs are selected for temporal regulation and their dynamic utilization and fate during this period are still unknown. Using a high-resolution ribosome profiling approach, we analyzed the transcriptome, as well as monosome- and polysome-bound RNAs of mouse oocytes and embryos, defining an unprecedented extent of spatiotemporal translational landscapes during this rapid developmental phase.
Bioinspired Injectable Polyurethane Underwater Adhesive with Fast Bonding and Hemostatic Properties
1 Introduction Underwater adhesives have wide applications in various fields, including industry, marine and medical.[1-3] The hydration layer of bonding interface poses a challenge to achieving strong and fast underwater adhesion.[4] As an alternative to traditional surgical sutures, medical tissue adhesives are gaining popularity.[5, 6] Nevertheless, many clinical adhesives such as cyanoacrylates and fibrinogen adhesives lose their bonding properties when exposed to water.[7, 8] In recent...

Precisely synthesized segmented polyurethanes toward block sequence-controlled drug delivery Yuanqing Song, Chuandong Sun, Chengxu Tian, Hao Ming, Yanjun Wang, Wenkai Liu, Nan He, Xueling He, Mingming Ding, Jiehua Li, Feng Luo, Hong Tan and Qiang Fu Abstract The construction of polyurethanes (PUs) with sequence-controlled block structures remains a serious challenge.
Two-stage artificial neural network-based burst-subcarrier joint equalization in nonlinear frequency division multiplexing systems
Abstract We propose an artificial neural network (ANN)-based scheme to improve the performance of nonlinear frequency division multiplexing (NFDM) optical transmission systems in both time and frequency domain. Through two-stage ANN equalization at the receiver side, time-domain distortions between adjacent bursts and frequency-domain cross talk between neighboring subcarriers can be jointly mitigated.
High-speed PAM4 transmission with a GeSi electro-absorption modulator and dual-path neural-network-based equalization
Abstract Equalization based on artificial neural networks (NN) has proved to be an effective way for nonlinearity mitigation in various kinds of optical communication systems. In this Letter, we propose a novel methodology of dual-path neural network (DP-NN)-based equalization. By combining a linear equalizer with an input-pruned NN equalizer, DP-NN can effectively reduce the computation cost compared to a conventional NN equalizer.
High-speed SSB transmission with a silicon MZM and a soft combined artificial neural network-based equalization
Abstract We experimentally demonstrate high-speed metro-scale optical transmission of a single sideband (SSB) 4-ary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) signal based on a silicon photonic dual-drive Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM). We propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, artificial neural network (ANN) structure of soft combined ANN (SC-ANN) to compensate for both linear and nonlinear impairments of the signal.
