Rossby wave diversion as a source of subseasonal predictability for extreme Meiyu-Baiu events
Abstract Meiyu-Baiu, the distinct rainy season in subtropical East Asia, is characterized by a quasi-stationary Meiyu-Baiu Front (MBF) along which excessive rainfall and mega floods often occur. This study shows that the spatial stationarity of MBF, and thus its potential to generate catastrophic flooding is inherently modulated by synoptic-scale disturbances over northeastern East Asia.
Strong tropical cyclones have a more gradual increase trend through interaction with ocean subsurface
Abstract Understanding changes in global tropical cyclone (TC) intensity and their long-term trends is critical for enhancing societal resilience. Given their disproportionate impacts, shifts in strong TCs, which are defined here as Category 4 and above, are of particular concern.
A significant drop in tropical cyclones’ lifespan in the Pacific over the past 40 years
Abstract Tropical cyclones (TCs) are one of the most destructive natural disasters. It is important to document long-term changes in TC properties to better prepare for the damages associated with TCs. TC lifespan is one of the little-studied TC characteristics.
Potential contribution of stratosphere–troposphere coupling to Pacific decadal oscillation teleconnection to Antarctic summer sea ice melt
Abstract Antarctic sea ice expanded pre–20151–3 and declined rapidly post–20154, a regime shift generally attributed to a combination of factors, including sudden Southern Annular Mode transition5 and tropospheric teleconnections associated with the Pacific4,6–8. Yet, mechanisms responsible for the decadal variability remain unresolved.
Clinical characteristics and risk factors of protein-losing enteropathy: a retrospective study
Abstract Objective: Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is characterized by excessive gastrointestinal protein loss, yet systematic comparative studies across etiologies remain limited.
Integrated relative humidity as a layer-resolved indicator for moisture-precipitation interactions
Abstract We introduce Integrated Relative Humidity (IRH), a layer-resolved diagnostic of tropospheric saturation, to investigate moisture-precipitation interactions in the subtropical coastal environment (Hong Kong). Using 16 years (2005–2020) of co-located radiosonde and rain gauge data, we classify observations into four precipitation lifecycle stages: No Rain (NR), Before Rain (BR), During Rain (DR), and After Rain (AR).
Tropopause Temperature Drives Tropical Cyclone Simulation Diversity
Tropical cyclones are a key focus of climate research, but models often disagree on storm behavior even with identical sea surface temperature data. Mahoney et al. [2026] identify a major, overlooked factor: temperature biases at the tropopause. Cooler tropopause temperatures strengthen storms by cooling their upper-level outflow, boosting their potential intensity. In model experiments, this effect increased global cyclone frequency by 35% and North Atlantic hurricane frequency by 80%.
Prophage landscapes in clinical MRSA: safety profiling and discovery of Lys81, a broad-spectrum bacteriolytic enzyme
Abstract Introduction: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) poses a significant threat to global healthcare, requiring novel therapeutic strategies. Prophages, latent phage genomes integrated into bacterial chromosomes, are important resources for antimicrobial development due to their genomic stability and genetic engineering potential.
Recent slowing of Arctic sea ice melt tied to multidecadal NAO variability - Nature Communications
Abstract The reduction of Arctic sea ice concentration (SIC) is a key indicator of global warming. In September 2012, SIC reached its lowest recorded value. Since then, sea ice melt has slowed down, showing a linear trend of only −0.4±6.8%/decade from 2012 to 2023, compared to −11.3±3.3%/decade from 1996 to 2011.

Electron rearrangement at the crystalline-amorphous heterogeneous interface boosts alkaline hydrogen production
Electron rearrangement at the crystalline–amorphous heterogeneous interface boosts alkaline hydrogen production† Modifying the platinum (Pt) local reaction microenvironment is a critical and complex challenge in enhancing electrochemical performance. Herein, amorphous Co(OH)2 and crystalline Pt (labeled as ac-Pt@Co(OH)2) featuring abundant crystalline–amorphous (c–a) interfaces are designed to boost the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).
Dynamic modulation of electron redistribution at the heterogeneous interface nickel hydroxides/platinum boosts acidic oxygen reduction reaction - Nature Communications

Developing Ni single-atom sites in carbon nitride for efficient photocatalytic H2O2 production - Nature Communications
Abstract Photocatalytic two-electron oxygen reduction to produce high-value hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is gaining popularity as a promising avenue of research. However, structural evolution mechanisms of catalytically active sites in the entire photosynthetic H2O2 system remains unclear and seriously hinders the development of highly-active and stable H2O2 photocatalysts.
