Nationwide recycled steel slag pavements can stimulate sustainable urban transportation
Abstract Urban road expansion supports economic growth but also locks in emissions and resource demand. A bottom-up, high-resolution framework was developed to assess national-scale climate, health and economic impacts of recycled steel slag pavements. Taking China as a representative case, the framework integrates pavement degradation with nationwide data on traffic demand, road networks, and steel slag availability to evaluate renovation and cross-regional allocation strategies.
MUC13 promotes cisplatin resistance in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma through regulation by histone H3K18 lactylation
|
Abstract Cisplatin resistance remains a major clinical challenge in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA); however, its underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Building on our previous study that identified Mucin 13 (MUC13) as an oncogenic driver, we aimed to investigate its contribution to cisplatin resistance.

Histone lactylation-driven IGF2BP3 promotes intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma progression via SPP1/CD44-dependent macrophage polarization
|
Abstract The tumor microenvironment is a critical regulator of cancer progression. Histone lactylation, a novel post-translational modification, has emerged as a key player in various tumors and is closely linked to macrophage polarization within the immune tumor microenvironment. Here, we delineated the signaling axis through which histone lactylation, specifically H3K18la, orchestrates crosstalk between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cells and the tumor microenvironment (TME).

The association between maternal multivitamin intake and premature birth
Abstract In urban settings, unsupervised maternal multivitamin use is common, but its impact on premature birth (PTB) remains unclear. We conducted a secondary analysis of a nested case–control study within a population-based prospective cohort in Wuhan, China (2011–2013), including 6656 births. Maternal multivitamin intake was assessed during the preconceptional period (three months before pregnancy) and the prenatal period (during pregnancy).

Prediction of atelectasis in Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia using a SHapley Additive exPlanations-interpretable machine learning model
Abstract Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the performance of three machine learning models—K-nearest neighbors (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), and neural network (NN)—for predicting the risk of atelectasis in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP). The study also incorporated SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analysis to interpret model predictions.
GPX3 suppresses gallbladder cancer progression by modulating redox balance, glycolysis, and anti-tumor immunity
Abstract Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is an aggressive malignancy characterized by metabolic plasticity and profound immune evasion. However, the functional role of glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3), a secreted antioxidant enzyme, in these processes remains unclear. Multi-omics analyses of paired GBC and adjacent non-tumor tissues revealed consistent downregulation of GPX3, which correlated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and enhanced glycolytic activity.

Engineering of 2‐ketoacid Decarboxylases for Production of Isobutanol and Other Fusel Alcohols in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
1 Introduction The current reliance of the transportation sector on petroleum-derived fuels is not sustainable and results in an enormous carbon footprint, contributing to 28% of the US's greenhouse gas equivalents in 2022 (EPA 2024). Biofuels offer a renewable alternative to petroleum-derived fuels since they are compatible with the existing liquid fuels infrastructure and have the potential to have net-zero carbon emissions.
Whole‐Genome Resequencing Reveals the Demographic History and Adaptive Evolution of Tamarix austromongolica in the Yellow River Basin
1 Introduction The geomorphological evolution of major river systems is a key driver shaping the genetic diversity, population structure, and adaptive differentiation of riparian plants (Yue et al. 2012; Davis et al. 2018; Higgisson et al. 2020). The complex topography of river corridors creates dynamic patterns of population isolation and connectivity (Werth et al. 2014, Imbert and Lefèvre, 2003).
Golgi-localized phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase β mediates Rab11a activation and trafficking to promote ciliogenesis
Abstract Ciliogenesis requires an orchestrated interaction between the Golgi apparatus and centrioles via vesicle trafficking, yet this process is still poorly understood. Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase β (PI4KB) is a conserved kinase that localizes to the Golgi for generating phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate, an important lipid component related to cilium formation. Here, we demonstrate a previously uncharacterized mechanism of PI4KB in regulating Rab11a to enable proper ciliogenesis.
A Multi‐Step Deposition Strategy for β‐SiC Coatings on Cf/C Composites: Achieving Breakthrough Oxidation Resistance and Mechanical Properties
1 Introduction Carbon/carbon (Cf/C) composites are highly valued for their distinctive combination of properties, including low density (0.9–1.9 g cm−3), high specific strength, high specific modulus, high thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion (1.0 × 10−6 °C), good fracture toughness, and resistance to radiation, wear, and ablation.

Biomimetic microstructure design for ultrasensitive piezoionic mechanoreceptors in multimodal object recognition - Nature Communications
Abstract The challenge of achieving high recognition accuracy in artificial mechanoreceptors arises from the trade-off between sensitivity and stability in the sensing unit. Inspired by human skin, we developed a biomimetic approach that involves structural and engineering enhancements for ionic-conducting polyvinyl alcohol/Ti3C2Tx (PVA/MXene) composite hydrogel microneedles (HM) to enhance the sensitivity.

A Hybrid Type I and II Polyketide Synthases Yields Distinct Aromatic Polyketides
Abstract Bacterial aromatic polyketides are compounds with multiple aromatic rings synthesized by bacterial type II polyketide synthases (PKSs), some of which have been developed into clinical drugs. Compounds containing aromatic polyketides synthesized by a hybrid type I and type II PKSs are extremely rare.
Semirecumbent Positioning During Anesthesia Recovery and Postoperative Hypoxemia: A Randomized Clinical Trial
IMPORTANCE: The efficacy of a semirecumbent position (SRP) in reducing postoperative hypoxemia during anesthesia emergence is unclear despite its widespread use. OBJECTIVE: To determine the differences in postoperative hypoxemia between patients in an SRP and a supine position. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This randomized clinical trial was performed at a tertiary hospital in China between March 20, 2021, and May 10, 2022.
The Yellow River is the key corridor for Tamarix austromongolica to disperse from Asia inlands to east seashores
1 INTRODUCTION Most species of the Tamarix L. genus (Tamaricaceae) adapt well to subtropical and temperate arid lands, playing an important role in determining ecosystem functions and services (Zhang, 2004; Zhang et al., 2001). The adaptations are inherited from the common ancestors that originated in ancient Mediterranean before the Miocene (Terrones & Juan, 2023; Zhang et al., 2001, 2002).
