How the UK can secure its position in the global transition finance race
The UK’s ambition to be a global hub for green and transition finance depends on credible, comparable transition plans that unlock investment, manage risk and maximise economic growth. Getting the UK’s transition plan requirement right is a strategic economic opportunity, not just a disclosure exercise. Green and transition investment is a transformative opportunity.
ASA provides a steady hand in uncertain climate
In times of turbulence, it’s always comforting to be aligned with an ally that has your back. For InSinkErator and scores of other U.S. manufacturers, we approach today’s tenuous import/export market with confidence knowing that organizations like the American Supply Association are continually at work to identify supply chain issues, provide counsel, and systems to help manufacturers overcome them.
UK transition plan consultation: Building a future-fit regulatory regime
Following the welcome publication of the sustainability reporting standards (SRS) consultation package, rapid implementation will be essential to unlock capital at the pace and scale required to drive clean economic growth. In their 2024 general election manifesto, Labour set out their ambition to make the UK the green finance capital of the world.
Investors to UK - help us invest for growth by managing climate risks
With growth the top priority for the new UK government, action is essential to unlock investment at scale across the UK. The net zero transition offers significant opportunities to drive clean growth and economic resilience through investment – with the CBI estimating that delivering net zero could unlock £104 billion of inward investment by 2040. The Chancellor’s speech last week recognised the role that the climate transition plays in her economic vision for the UK.
Planning for success - how transition plans support climate finance mobilisation
At COP29 in Baku, countries delivered a hard-won agreement to mobilise $1.3 trillion of finance to developing countries by 2035, supporting delivery of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement goals for global climate action. Achieving this goal will require substantial mobilisation of private investment. Private sector transition planning is a critical lever to unlock capital and redirect economic activity to meet the world’s climate needs.
To compete for green investment, the UK must accelerate its transition plan agenda
Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ recent Mansion House speech stressed the importance of economic growth and gave a strong signal of the Treasury’s commitment to sustainability. Her speech included announcements on topics from pensions to digital gilts, and consultations were launched on the UK’s Green Taxonomy, regulation of ESG ratings providers and much more. However, the long-awaited transition plan consultation was again absent – now due in “the first half” of next year.
E3G Polling: climate and the 2024 General Election
Blog 25 Jul 2024 At the 2024 General Election, the public’s worries and ambition on climate far surpassed that of the politicians seeking their votes. The public overwhelmingly is worried about climate change and supports climate action. Whilst the party that was seen to care the most about climate change won the election, there is clear appetite for further action.
A UK Spring Budget for green growth
Major investments in the UK’s critical energy infrastructure, industrial heartlands and cleantech industries are needed to help Britain compete on the global stage. Long-term policy and fiscal decisions are essential to attract private finance and spur investment in UK skills and supply chains. Focused investment would increase the UK economy’s resilience to external shocks, push down bills and tackle inflation.
Scope 3 emissions in the UK reporting landscape
Delivering a credible sustainability reporting regulatory framework will be essential if the UK is to deliver on its ambition to become a world-leading Net Zero-aligned Financial Centre. Scope 3 emissions account for an estimated three-quarters of company-level emissions and it is essential that they are reported. E3G is pleased to provide feedback to the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero’s “Scope 3 Emissions in the UK Reporting Landscape”.
UK at COP28: government must align domestic and international ambition
Balancing international and domestic policy is a challenge as old as diplomacy. For climate, conflicts arise faster and more frequently than in any other sector. Every reasonable world leader agrees we need wide-ranging, collective action to avoid catastrophe. However, in the domestic setting, a myriad of other policy priorities, balance sheets and public opinion create barriers to delivering on a net zero global vision.
Smarter regulation non-financial reporting review
Submissions E3G response to the call for evidence 31 Aug 2023 Delivering a credible non-financial reporting regulatory framework will be essential if the UK is to become a world-leading Net Zero Aligned Financial Centre and remain an attractive place to invest. There is strong support for high-quality non-financial reporting by leading UK Investors and Businesses. E3G supports the roll out, as soon as possible, of the UK’s Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) reporting framework.
Summer scholar turns the spotlight on native tree-perching orchids
Because of their modest flowers and small size, New Zealand epiphytic orchids are rarely talked about and even more rarely studied. This is about to change as summer research intern Joe Dillon (Victoria University of Wellington) spends his summer at Te Papa and Ōtari Wilton’s Bush native botanic garden researching an orchid that’s struggling to survive. There are more than 100 species of orchids in Aotearoa New Zealand, but only a few are epiphytic.

(BPT) - By Joe Dillon | President, Emerson InSinkErator Americans spent more money on food at home than in restaurants in 2020, halting a restaurant spending trend that has been steadily rising over the past decade. This return to the home kitchen is likely to stay, as 7 out of 10 Americans say they intend to continue cooking at home more, even as restaurants and the world open back up for diners.
