Make These Vegan Martha Stewart Recipes for Your Next Dinner Party
Martha Stewart is known for many things. There’s her unlikely friendship with Snoop Dogg, her enormous net worth (fun fact: she was the first self-made female billionaire in the US), and her talents as a homemaker. Vegan Caesar Salad With Chicories and Walnuts TOTAL 25 MIN; SERVES 4 When Mariela Alvarez developed this salad for Public Records in Brooklyn, she flavored her creamy vegan Caesar dressing with miso, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Here, we toss jewel-toned chicories in the umami-laden dressing and toast walnuts in it, too, for a salty-sweet crunch. Use a white or chickpea miso here—they’re fermented for less time than stronger-tasting red misos and won’t overpower the dish.
Caramelized Chipotle Chicken
I reviewed this once before, following the recipe. Since then, I have followed it to the letter, unless I am out of cider vinegar and dark brown sugar. At that point, I just use a good barbecue sauce from a bottle, but add the important cinnamon, which I even tweak a bit. To the member who said to add the garlic to the onions, no. The crispy slices of garlic sautéed on their own is part of these enhanced flavors. Always delicious, and great leftovers.

11 Mini Super Bowl Snacks That Will Make the Crowd Go Wild
Grace Elkus Rule number one of Super Bowl Sunday: make a lot more food than you think you’ll need. Whether you’re hosting die-hard football fans, a crowd that’s all about the ads, or even a group of friends who tune in primarily for the halftime show, you’ll want to have snacks they can graze on throughout the game. Stay away from casserole-style dishes, such as lasagna or enchiladas, which are far too heavy for this type of gathering.
7 Rock Stars' Hangover-Curing Breakfasts
There’s a stereotype about musicians that they know how to party. And while we’re reluctant to generalize, we suspected that rock stars might have some insight into one of Saturday morning’s oldest questions: What should I eat to cure this raging hangover? So to get some professional, definitely scientific insight, we asked some of our favourite musicians about what sort of greasy breakfast bomb they crave to dull the pain and what restaurant does it best.
Rhubarb Turnovers
My first attempt at turnovers. This is a good recipe. I stopped after making the dough into a disc and refrigerated it overnight. That required some patience rolling it out in the morning. I was low on butter, so I used 1.5 sticks, an ounce or cream cheese (all I had) and about .25 cup of Greek plain nonfat yogurt. Did the pastry in the food processor. I was also slightly low on rhubarb so I used about .5 cup of blueberries. I'm very pleased at how they turned out.

For the Pollans, family dinners are a must
Setting the tone for a lifetime of good eating and relationships, matriarch Corky Pollan has made her feelings on the family table very clear. Family dinner is a must, and there is no such thing as a kids' table in her house. When her family outgrew its traditional dining table, she found a carpenter to make it bigger. When that got to be too tight of a squeeze for her brood of 21, including children, grandchildren and in-laws, they knocked out a wall and expanded a room just to make it work.
Food & Wine Magazine's Dana Cowin boosts her kitchen confidence
Everyone makes mistakes in the kitchen, even Dana Cowin. Twenty years at the helm of Food & Wine Magazine, and the editor-in-chief is coming clean. She hasn't always been a confident cook, and she's ruined more meals than she can count. For most of her adult life, she never even cooked her own Thanksgiving turkey. Rather than giving up and ordering takeout, she took action.
A conversation with Dana Cowin of Food & Wine magazine
Twenty years into her job as editor in chief of Food & Wine magazine, Dana Cowin thought it was time to buff up her cooking skills. With tutorials from the top chefs in the country, Cowin cooked her way through her personal collection of recipes and found out how to improve them and her culinary technique. She offers the recipes — and the stories — in “Mastering My Mistakes in the Kitchen” (HarperCollins, 310 pages, $34.99).

Curry Coriander Shorties
These are some of my favorite cookies - easy to make and a crowd-pleasing hit. They aren’t too sweet, which is a big plus. I bake one batch at a time rather than rotating baking racks. I just put the dough in the fridge between bakes to keep it from getting too warm. The first time I made these, I followed the recipe exactly. Since then, I’ve used pre-ground coriander. I also start toasting the coriander and toss in the curry powder about one minute in. No difference in taste at all. Oh, my.
John Kernick reviews ‘The Health Farm Murders’ by Tom Howard, ‘The Beach-Front Murders’ by Tom Howard and ‘Builder of Dreams’ by Andrew Mallon
Tom Howard is a new character/pseudonymous author in the same general region inhabited so prominently by Peter Corris’ Cliff Hardy, although with the publication of his first two novels it remains to be seen how far Howard will be able to rival Corris’ talent for bringing out the local flavour of crime and corruption, and how far his books will simply have Australian settings grafted on to classic forms of the whodunnit.
