Efficacy and safety analysis of consolidation immunotherapy following definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract Background: Definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) is standard for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), but recurrences remain common. Evidence for consolidation immunotherapy after dCRT is limited. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of consolidation immunotherapy after dCRT and explored the association between programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and treatment outcomes.
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BL-99 ameliorates age-related intestinal hypomotility in older adults: a randomized controlled trial
|
Abstract The decay of smooth muscle contractility is a major trigger of aging-related intestinal hypomotility, which imposes a substantial healthcare burden. Despite this, effective targeted therapy for this condition remains unavailable. Here, we identified the probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BL-99 as a microbiota modulator that restores gut motility through the bile acid (BA)-mediated rescue of smooth muscle contractile function.

Veno-arterial ECMO as a bridge to delayed repair in post-infarction ventricular septal rupture with cardiogenic shock
Abstract Post-infarction ventricular septal rupture (PIVSR) complicated by cardiogenic shock carries an extremely high mortality rate. While surgical or interventional repair is the definitive treatment, optimal timing remains challenging due to hemodynamic instability. Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) may stabilize patients and serve as a bridge to delayed repair, but its role requires further investigation.

Microglial serine racemase knockout alleviates Alzheimer-like neuropathology and behavioral deficit via lactylation-mediated anti-inflammation - Communications Biology
Abstract Serine racemase (SR) dysregulation associates with brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), as both a deficiency and an excess of D-serine can impact synaptic neurotransmission and the integrity of synapses. Neuronal SR decreases with aging, while glial SR is upregulated in AD. However, the role of SR in microglia involved in AD remains elusive. Here, Srr knockdown/knockout in microglia enhanced whereas overexpression of SR inhibited phagocytosis.
