Overtime winner advances Mavericks to Kelly Cup Finals

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - With some dramatic overtime heroics, the Kansas City Mavericks advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals on Monday night. Jakov Novak scored an overtime winner to beat the Fort Wayne Komets, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. It’s the second time in the last three seasons the Mavericks have punched their ticket to the Kelly Cup Finals. The Game 6 win over Fort Wayne came in overtime after the Komets tied the game with 5 seconds remaining in the third period.

Gardner-Edgerton softball wins 6A state for first time

GARDNER, Kan. (KCTV) - Gardner-Edgerton softball made program history on Saturday, winning its first state championship. “My whole goal when I came to Gardner was to bring home a State Championship for this school, and this town in general, and it just means so much,” said junior Morgan Beasley. “I knew from the beginning of the season we had a great team. And I knew we could all win a State Championship if we really put our minds to it,” freshman catcher Bella Garcia said.

Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy hosts ‘Dream B1G’ youth football camp

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy gave back to the Kansas City community in a big way on Saturday morning, hosting a ‘Dream B1G Football Camp’ at Southeast High School. About 400 kids in grades 3-8 were in attendance for the free camp, which he put on through his Worthy 1’s Foundation. “It’s amazing just to have that gravitation towards kids, and that effect, and obviously that leadership towards kids.
