A Great Horned Owl was perched on my balcony railing, calling out to its mating partner. I initially believed it was a one-time midnight visit. I was wrong. That owl would be my roommate for the next few months. Wildlife experts say if you live in Central Texas, it is only a matter of time before this happens to you too.

Waco crews battle kitchen fire

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Waco firefighters response to a Monday morning, extinguishing a kitchen fire. According to a Battalion Chief, it started in a dishwasher. Crews got the call at 7:08 a.m., and arrive at 3501 Kenwood Drive at 7:12 where smoke was coming from the front door of the home. This location is near University High School. The flames were contained 17 minutes later. Crews helped a woman in a wheelchair get out. Four people were taken to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation.
