Managing a Healthcare Crisis
Dawn Dankner-Rosen and Mackenzie Maher In today’s hyper-connected world, where news and information spread instantaneously, every business or organization will inevitably face some type of crisis that can threaten its hard-earned reputation. The stakes are even higher in healthcare, where effectively managing a crisis could be a matter of life or death.
Thank You for Four Year – The Spectrum Newspaper
As my last few weeks of being a college student come to an end, I cannot help but reminisce on all the memories I have made over my past four years here at SHU. When I think back on all of the significant moments I have had here, there are so many people, organizations and aspects of this university that are responsible for making my four years of college the best they could have possibly been. So here is to many thank you’s that are the reason for making my college experience the greatest.
A Letter to My Freshman Self – The Spectrum Newspaper
When I think back to the beginning of my freshman year, I remember feeling like senior year was a lifetime away. It felt like my college years were some type of constant, like year after year I would just continue the motions of being a student at Sacred Heart. It never occurred to me all the emotions that would come with graduating college and the feelings of uncertainty and bittersweetness.
One Year of the SHU Coronavirus Planning Team – The Spectrum Newspaper
Do you remember where you were one year ago when you received the email that classes would be moved online for two weeks? “I was at practice and everyone was also sharing the same feeling of surprise,” said senior Ryan Corbett.
SHU Students Receive COVID-19 Vaccine – The Spectrum Newspaper
On Dec. 14, the United States began to administer its first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers. Shortly after, the FDA approved the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to also be distributed. Many nursing students at Sacred Heart University were eligible to receive the vaccine due to working in the hospitals for their clinical hours. “Knowing I have to be in the surgical ICU this semester, I believe it was in my best interest to get it,” said senior Shania Latassa.
Melanie Wozniak on Becoming a Fashion Icon
TRLBLZRS 2020 Not many people can look absolutely stunning at 8 A.M., but to no surprise, Melanie Wozniak is one of them. She brings a special vibrancy to our conversation, leaving a lasting impression about what it means to be young and successful. All of this, of course, while she is wearing her favorite gold earrings and mountain and moon statement chokers . Melanie currently plays the role of Jack on ABC’s TV show ITCH, but her talents do not stop there.
Avenue Beat: 2020 Is the Year of the Girl Band
by Gabrielle Fezza & Mackenzie Maher Yeah, fuck 2020, but Avenue Beat does make 2020 a little less fucked. Avenue Beat's insta bio might read, “the first girl group with them all ugly as fck," but they make us want to get our girl gang together and form a band as dope as theirs. Being that I’m in the midst of forming my own girl band with my two girl friends from home, I was beyond excited to talk to Avenue Beat, who are a direct representation of what makes girl bands so incredible.
How To Be the Best Dressed Cousin at Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving may look a little different this year due to COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean your outfit has to suffer. Here are some of my favorite Fall looks that will for sure turn heads at your socially-distant Thanksgiving table. Balloon Sleeves The turkey isn’t the only thing that has to be large on this holiday. The larger the sleeves the better.
Fashion Influencers "Emily in Paris" Should Follow for Season 2
It's no secret that Emily from Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” fashion is questionable at times. Nothing screams tourist like wearing a blouse with the Eiffel Tower printed on it. Or even worse, an Eiffel Tower keychain clipped onto her bag that can be found at an airport gift shop. Let's hope, since she’s lived in the city for a while now, she will not be wearing any famous monuments printed on her clothes in season 2.
How to Survive Moving Back Home for the Holidays
Leave the condoms and bongs, and bring the load of laundry because it’s time to move back home with your parents for the holiday break. Living away at college comes with many freedoms; going out whenever you want, staying up until whatever hour of the night and sleeping in as long as you want the next day. But as November rolls around the party comes to an end and it’s time to move back to our childhood homes while colleges are off for the month.
Not Your Average Internship – The Spectrum Newspaper
When people hear the word “internship,” they usually think of making copies and fetching coffee, but my internship at Mud Magazine has been everything but taking Starbucks orders. Mud Magazine is a place for young creators to express themselves and share things that other young people are interested in listening to and reading.
Embrace Your Basic
Being basic nowadays usually comes with a negative connotation. But it’s freaking 2020 and you know what? It’s okay to be basic! I’m tired of everyone trashing basic bitches. For all of the basic bitches (and male basic bitches too) take your claim and own that basic label, because it’s okay.
If Gossip Girl Characters Went to Public Universities
We all know and love the iconic CW series, Gossip Girl. Where we are given a look into the lives of Manhattan's elitist Upper East Siders. I used to envy the lives of these fictional characters, and wished that I attended the same exclusive parties, dressed in extravagant fifth avenue clothes, and Sunday brunched in the city. The four privileged Upper East Siders, and two Brooklyn wannabes are not only fictional characters, but they are among us. On our own campus.
21st Birthday in the Q
Turning 21 means you can legally do all of the things you’ve been doing since you were 16. If you’re anything like me, you’ve had your 21st planned out for years. As soon as I arrived at college I pulled up my calendar, mapped out the days, and began the countdown.
Students Banned From Campus – The Spectrum Newspaper
On Sep. 3 Sacred Heart University’s Coronavirus Planning Team sent an email out requiring all students living off-campus in Bridgeport to not come onto campus until further notice. The email stated the university was making this decision because of the recent spike in positive COVID-19 cases among students who live off-campus in Bridgeport. At the time there were 10 positive cases out of the 2,500 students who live off-campus in Bridgeport.
College Students Are Thirsty...But Not For What You Think.
Yeah, we want to go back to hooking up in random frat basements. But we also want to stay hydrated, and just have a drink from our hydroflasks in class. Don’t get me wrong, we should all be wearing our masks. In class, at the stores, just really anywhere you’re around another human being PLEASE put on your mask. That's not what this is about.
Chinese Street Fashion TikToks Are Everything We Didn't Know We Needed
These fashionable slow motion clips have taken over TikTok, and I love everything about it. We’ve all seen the TikTok trends like the “Renegade dance," Vogue Challenge,” and tie dye phenomenon. The newest trend that is taking the streets by storm, literally, is the Chinese street fashion toks. These videos consist of slow-mo clips of people dressed in fabulous clothes casually walking down the streets of Chinese cities like Chengdu, Beijing and Shanghai.

Connecticut state Attorney General William Tong has amended and expanded his office’s complaints against 20 of the nation's largest generic drug manufacturers for what he says is their role in driving up prices. “Much of the generic drug industry is rigged and that there is rampant price fixing and market allocation in violation of our nation’s antitrust laws.
